editHis father was John McNicol (26 December 1862 - 24 October 1940), an artist from Partick, Glasgow.
His mother was Kate Dick (c. 1863 - 1940) from Glasgow. John and Kate married in 1884 in Kelvin, Glasgow.
Robert Alexander McNicol was born on 13 December 1894 in Kilmarnock.[1]
