John Stewart Maclaren (11 October 1860 - 14 January 1934) was a Scottish painter.[1]

His father was John Maclaren (12 October 1816 - 7 December 1893), publisher in Edinburgh. A founder of the firm Maclaren and Macniven. He died at the family home Hartfell House in Moffat, bought in the early 1890s.

His mother was Janet Charlotte Carruthers Smith (16 June 1832 - 4 July 1915) from Edinburgh. She died in Hartfell House, Moffat.[6][7]

John and Janet married on 26 September 1855. They married at Borgue, Kirkcudbright.

John Stewart Maclaren was born at 1.30am on 11 October 1860 at 59 Castle Street, St. Andrew parish, Edinburgh. He was the eldest son.

Death

He died on 14 January 1934 in Hartfell House, Moffat.[8]

The funeral was on 17 January 1934 at Moffat cemetery.[9]
