Hugh Monro (8 September 1881 - 28 July 1928) was a Scottish painter.[1][2]

His father was Daniel Monro (born c. 1840), a baker from Edinburgh. Daniel was a widower from his first marriage. Daniel was the son of Daniel Monro [Snr] (14 October 1810 - 1878), a printer compositor from Edinburgh; and Jemima Stewart Carstairs (born c. 1813) from Edinburgh. Daniel [Snr] and Jemima married on 3 January 1832 in Edinburgh.

His mother was Isabella Macdonald (born c. 1838) from Edinburgh. Isabella was the daughter of Archibald Macdonald, a contractor, and Margaret Sutherland. Daniel and Isabella married on 4 October 1878 at 4 Oxford Street, Newington, Edinburgh. They were staying at 6 Simon Square in Edinburgh.

Hugh Pendreich Monro was born on 8 September 1881 in Edinburgh.[5]

He married the artist Mabel Victoria Elliot (16 June 1884 - 13 March 1960) from Minto in the Scottish Borders. They married on 7 March 1916 at the Sheriff Court house in Edinburgh.[6][7]

He died on 28 July 1928 in Edinburgh. His estate was valued at £1339, 11 shillings and 7 pence. His usual address was at 15 Queen Street, Edinburgh.[8]
