Institute of Industrial Design, Warsaw, Poland

The Institute of Industrial Design (Instytut Wzornictwa Przemyslowego, or IWP) - is one the oldest industrial design institutions in Europe.

Polish artist Wanda Telakowska founded IWP in October 1950 in Warsaw, following a transformation of the government's Aesthetics of Production Supervision Office (BNEP). Telakowska served as IWP's first director.[1]

Purpose And Services edit

Located at 3/5 Świętojerska St. in Warsaw, IWP focuses on research and development.

It serves as an advisor and consultant in design strategy and management, primarily for large and medium-sized companies from various industries seeking to use design innovation to improve their competitive position. The organization also serves designers, institutions, and local governments.

IWP is Poland's only institution classified as a scientific unit that deals with design in a systemic way and conducts activities to improve - through design - innovation and competitiveness among Polish enterprises.[2]

IWP also implements educational projects for design and design management, including training for entrepreneurs and postgraduate studies for management. It also helps promote innovative products and good design practices by organizing exhibitions and competitions such as Dobry Wzór (Good Design), a competition for the best designed products on the Polish market.

Memberships edit

IWP is a member of:

  • International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), an international non-profit organization promoting design that counts more than 150 institutions from more than 50 countries among its members
  • Design Management Institute (DMI), an international organization for business and cultural institutions operating in the field of education, research and development, and design in all areas of design.
