Abhimanyu Bhupathi (born U B Abhimanyu on 10 January 2016) is an Indian theatre director, writer, actor and a singer who is known for his works in Kannada Contemporary Theatre. He acted in back to back stage shows in the initial stages of his career when he joined Kalakshetra, Bengaluru and he has several awards for his credit.

After working as an actor in the college theatre, he made his debut[1] in a well-known satire-comedy play 'Mamamouchi', a Molière's French adaptation of Le Bourgeois gentilhomme into Kannada by K V Subbanna and has been a successful actor in Kannada Theatre. Abhimanyu has also worked in a number of plays in Kannada.

Apart from his acting skills, Abhimanyu's technical standards of stage design has placed him a most sought after the theatre personalities in Kannada Theatre. He has played a variety of roles, most notably as the Director of 'Kannada Jagattu' which won a Silver in the State Level Short Theatre Festival in 2014 conducted by Vijaya Karnataka.

Abhimanyu Bhupathi was born in Ballari, Karnataka on 10 January 1987 to a Kannada speaking couple. His father U Bhupathi is an Advocate and Vasundhara Bhupathi is a Doctor by profession. His brother Siddharth U B is an advocate by profession. He completed schooling at Florence High School, Bengaluru and joined Surana College of Arts and Commerce, Bengaluru. He also did his MBA from Department of PG Studies, VTU, Bengaluru.

As Singer

Abhimanyu began his career singing career at the age of 10. After learning classical music from Guru Ranganayaki he started participating in singing competitions and won many awards for the same. He later learnt Hindustani Classical from Guru M V Hedge for few years. His first song as a playback singer was in the movie Duniya(2006)[2] under the guidance of [[V. Manohar]. In 2012 he sang for the movie Bhagirathi which won the stage award[3]. As he was keen on theatre, slowly the singing took a back seat.

As Actor

He was very much into theatre in his college days. It was in 2006 he first enacted in a supporting role in Bertolt Brecht's Three Penny Opera which brought him the courage to look forward to more acting opportunities. In 2007 he won the Best Actor Award in a State level competition conducted by Bangalore University. After passing out of the college he worked as an actor with many theatre groups till 2011 in Bangalore.

As Director

His directorial debut was 'Urugavva'- a folk play in the year 2012 which was staged in Nataka Bengloor 2012. Till date he has directed several plays. Few famous and well recognised are Molière's Les Précieuses ridicules in kannada by Parvathavani called 'Navya Kanyeyaru', 'Gandhige Saavilla', a play on life of Mahatma Gandhi, 'Kannada Jagattu', a short play on the history of Kannada language which is critically acclaimed by the kannada theatre.
