Abba Kyari, is a Superintendent of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, currently serving at the Lagos State Police Command, in the capacity of the Officer-In-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, an outfit reputed for combating violent crimes ranging from armed robbery, car theft, kidnapping , gang clashes, sea piracy and terrorism. Profile Kyari, a Kanuri by tribe, is a native of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. He was born on March 17, 1975, into the family of Alhaji Baba Kyari, at the metropolitan city of Maiduguri, Borno State. He had his primary and secondary education, at the University of Maiduguri Staff Primary School and Government College Maiduguri, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate, SSCE. He gained admission into the University of Maiduguri in 1993 and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Geography in 1997. Afterwards, he proceeded on his compulsory National Youth Service, NYSC, and was attached to 6th Motorized Infantry Battalion of the Nigeria Army, at Igbawa Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State Police Career Kyari, got enlisted into the NPF in the year 2000, with the rank of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil Kano, Kano State. He was subsequently posted to the Adamawa State Police Command, on a one year attachment, from January 2002 to 2003, and was later deployed to Numan town Police Division, Adamawa State, where he served as the Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, between the year, 2003 to 2005. He performed excellently, most notable, was the arrest of a notorious armed robber, known as Ingili, who have held Numan Town hostage for many years. He was later drafted into the Police Mobile Force, PMF, and was attached to PMF 14 Squadron Command Yola, where he served as a Unit Commander from 2005 to 2010. In 2007, Kyari , as a Unit commander, was deployed on a special duty tour to the Rapid Response Squad, RRRS, of the Lagos State Police Command, between 2007 to 2010. During his redeployment from the RRS, the then Commander, Hakeem Odumusu, in a letter to Inspector General of Police recommended that Abba Kyari, should be deployed fully to the Lagos State Police Command, for having served the state with distinction and high dedication. Subsequently, Kyari got demobilized into a conventional police, in 2010 when he attained the rank of a Superintendent of Police and was transferred to the Lagos State Police Command. He was posted to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, as the second officer-in-charge and later, he became the officer in-charge, a position he held till date. Awards

Seven month into his tenure as the Oc SARS Lagos State Police Command, SP Abba Kyari, recorded an unprecedented achievement in the record of the NPF.  He led his men in arresting over a 100 sophisticated and deadly Armed robbers and kidnappers, within Lagos and many other states of the federation and recovered a total of four General Purpose Machine Gun, 71 AK-47 Rifles, three rocket launchers with four rockets, 12 Dynamites, 710 AK-47 Magazines all fully loaded with ammunition and over 20,000 live rounds of AK-47 ammunitions and many other assault weapons. His performance, dedication and gallantry to service, have since caught the attention many including the Executive Governor of Lagos, the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Crime Reports Association of Nigeria, CRAN, and others. These institutions have been compelled various occasions to honor him several kind of awards including; The Inspector General of Police Commendation Award for Courage, 17/03/2013, Inspector General of Police Commendation Award for Courage, 28/12/2012, Commissioner of Police Commendation Award for Courage, 26/10/2011, Gallantry and Service Excellence Award by Governor of Lagos State 4/12/2012. ACHIEVEMENTS: Sequel to the 13th March 2013 Lagos Murtala Mohammed International Airport robbery where 2 Policemen were killed and millions of naira carted away, SP. Abba Kyari led a team of detectives who track down the robbers and eventually arrested 12 out of the 13 armed robbers in Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Kwara and Rivers State. On 23rd of March 2013 he also led a team of detectives to a thick forest in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State and recovered five AK-47 Rifles, 64 AK-47 magazines all loaded, 4 Dynamites, 2 pistols, charms e.t.c. buried in an iron box at the armed robbers hide-out, the rifle of the slain policemen are among the ones recovered. On the 1st of April 2013 at about 1000hrs, SP.Abbba Kyari led a team of detectives to Edo, Rivers, Delta and Anambra State respectively and arrested 6 of the kidnappers that kidnapped the mother of the present Minister of Finance Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala in December 2012 and also, same gang confessed to the kidnapping of a 72 years old woman Mrs. Regina Obi in Delta State whom they killed after collecting two million naira ransom. Between September and December 2012, through relentless and diligent investigation and follow up, SP. Abba Kyari led SARS, Lagos State Police Command to arrest the 3 major groups of armed robbers who specialize in Banks, Bullion Van and Bureau de change robberies. These three groups have been terrorizing the whole of south-west for over 5 years and they confeesed to several Bank robberies in Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Kwara, Kogi, Edo and Akwa Ibom State. Also one Tochukwu Nweke who halls from Agulere, Anabra East Local Government, Anambra State, Nigeria and based in Cotonou, Benin Republic, a notorious arms dealer that supplied the GPMGs and AK-47 riffles to the robbers was also tracked and arrested by SP. Abba Kyari with Two (2) AK-47 riffles in Asaba, Delta Sate when he came from Benin Republic to deliver riffles to his clients. All together over 20 of the armed robbers were arrested and 40 AK-47riffles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), five dynamites, 401 riffle magazines all fully loaded, over 20,000 AK-47 ammunitions among others were recovered. On the 11th of April 2013 at about 015hrs, SP. Abba Kyari led a team of detectives to Ayobo area of Lagos where one Kazeem Adebola and 3 of his gang members were arrested and 5 AK-47 riffles with Serial Nos. 09681, 3958, 20194, 1096 and 31 AK-47 Magazines fully loaded all identified to be riffles of slain Policemen, were recovered. On the 6th April 2013 at about 0200hrs, SP Abba Kyari led a team of detectives to Ajegunle Pastor and five of his gang members and recovered w3 AK-47 rifles and 11 AK-47 magazines fully loaded with ammunitions. Two (2) of the kidnappers detention camp in Ikorodu and Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos were located, searched and sealed. On the 8th of March 2013 at about 1300hrs, SP Abba Kyari led a team of detectives to Abule Egba junction Lagos and exchanged fire with 13 Bank robbers. As a result, three (3) of the robbers were arrested and seven of the robbers were fatally wounded during gun battle while three (3) escaped. Three (3) AK-47 rifles and eight (8) AK-47 magazines all loaded with ammunitions were recovered. On the 3rd of December 2012 at about 2030hrs, SP Abba Kyari led a team of detectives to Ikotun area of Lagos where one notorious armed robber who specializes in Bank and Bureau de change robberies, Ejike Mbogu, was arrested and through diligent follow up, he led detectives to arrest 13 of his gang members and recovered 9 AK-47 riffles, One Pump action gun and thirty five AK-47 magazines. Also all the 9 AK-47 riffles recovered were identified to be riffles of slain policemen from Lagos and Ogun. On the 19th of September 2012 at about 2230hrs, SP Abba Kyari led a team of detectives to Ajah and Ajao estate areas of Lagos and arrested three notorious kidnapped a staff of Dangote Group of Company and a cousin to Aliko Dagote and demanded a ransom of $10,000,000 US Dollars. The victim was rescued without paying any ransom. His KIA car was recovered and 2 pistols were also recovered from the arrested kidnappers. On the 8th of October 2012, during joint operation with Mopol 2 Lagos, SP Abba Kyari led a team of detectives and stormed the hide-out of deadly and heavily armed Kidnappers at Igando Area of Lagos where three kidnapped victims were rescued and four(4) of the kidnappers arrested 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 2 rockets, 8 AK-47 Riffles 8 Dynamites, 160 AK-47 Magazines all loaded with ammunitions was recovered. Arrest of the most Notorious Armed robber in the South West Abiodun Egunjobi Aka Godogodo in ibadan Oyo State and his entire Gang of over 50 Armed Robbers and Recovery of  42  AK47 Rifles. Over 300 AK47 Rifles,  Several GPMGs  and Rochet Launchers were Recovered from deadly Armed Robbers and Kidnappers within the Last 3 years.
