Production
editOn April 19, 2010, it was announced that Elliot and Case would star in Dad's Home, "a story about a workaholic who is thrown into dad duty, just in time to heal the family bonds he has been breaking". Directed by Bradford May, the movie was produced by LG Films Production and written by Adam Rockoff.[2] Elliot was best known for his role as Harmon Rabb on the legal drama television series JAG. May is good friends with Elliot, as he directed fifty episodes of JAG.[3] Case is best known for her role of Sharon Case on the long-running soap opera, The Young and the Restless.[4] Elliot described Ben as a "workaholic" who is "struggling to deal with his two children" after losing his job, but by the end of the film learns as "life lesson", realizing what is improvident and what isn't.[3]
Release
editDad's Home premiered on Hallmark on June 19, 2010.[5][6]
Reception
editThe Movie Scene gave the film a mixed review, rating it three out of five stars, while stating that is it "fluff" and "the grown up equivalent of a cheesy romantic fairytale made for teens" that "feels like it is a movie built on clichés which you can spot coming a mile off".[7] Laura Tucker of the website Filmmonthly said "while it had the typical Hallmark storyline and overall feeling, the ending did leave me a little empty. Unlike most Hallmark movies, it wasn’t the storybook ending that you know is coming throughout the film".[5]
