Background on The Children's Parliament

The ACPUI(African Children's Paliament Union Initiative) found a way for young people to "Learn by acting" by taking part in younth and children's parliaments. These practices can be useful on deciding how to become a patriotic,nationalist and a more active citizen. This initiative was launched in Botswana following the first summit which brought together ninety-two children delegates from across the continent.

Namibia's Children's Parliament

The children's parliament of Namibia, founded 2006, aims to create a developing society with a high sense of responsibility of which the youth are part, with adults as partners. [1]

The first session of the children's Parliament of Namibia took place in Windhoek from the 13th to the 19th of May 2007 bringing together a total of fourty-two children from across the whole country from all the thirteen regions.

The first session was set out to deepen the understanding of parliamentary democracy,engage young people in government issues,create linkages with others on the continent,create a platfoprm value and chapioning the spread of values and rights of the unpriviledged.

The first session was hosted by the National Assembly in collaboration with the Ministy of Education and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare under the theme "Parliament- The People's House and Guarian of The Children's Rights and Future".

The second session took plae 6th to the 9th May 2008 under the same theme.[2]
