Mahdi Balali-Mood (in Persian مهدی بلالی مود), born 6th September, 1942 in Birjand (Mood); is a Prominent researcher, physician and clinical toxicologist. He was awarded BSc. (1st class Hon.) in Chemistry (1964) fom Teacher Training University, MD (1970) from Faculty of Medicine, Tehran University, PhD (1981) in Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology from Edinburgh University Medical School, UK. He is now Professor of medicine and clinical toxicology and Director of Medical Toxicology Center at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) and is well known internationally for his works on medical aspects of chemical warfare Agents. He was the first president of Iranian Society of Toxicology (IRANTOX) 1989-1992, and the third president of the Asia pacific Association of Medical Toxicology (APAMT 1994-2001). Prof. Mahdi Balali-Mood is founder and director of the MUMS Medical Toxicology Research Center at Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad (Sept. 2007 to date) He is a permanent fellow of the academy of sciences for the developing world (TWAS) since 1997 and a member of Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences since 1990, clinical toxicology advisor to World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) since 1989, member of the IPCS Programme Advisory Committee June 2000 to date, Vice Chairmaln of the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since 2004 and visiting professor of Newcastle University of England 2007 -2010. He is also Editor-in-Chief, Scientific Journal of Birjand University of Medical Sciences 2002 to date and Associate Editor, Journal Emerging Health Threats, Forum of Emerging Health Threats, London, Since 2006. Prof. Mahdi Balali-Mood has got several National and International Awards on Teaching, Research and Medical Care since 1963.

He is author of 21 books/monographs, 93 original papers in the National and International Medical Journals and 221 short papers and abstracts of the papers/lectures presented at the National and International Medical Conferences.
