ANOOP CHITKARA (Judge)


Justice Anoop Chitkara (Born on 29th April 1966) is currently a Judge of High Court of Punjab and Haryana. He is former judge of High Court of Himachal Pradesh.

CAREER

He passed his law from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla & started his practice in the October 1990. During his time at the bar, he was very fond of making synopsis and judicial precedents delivered by larger bench strength, to give the best possible assistance to the Hon'ble Judges. He practiced in all major fields of law with a special focus on Criminal law. He was designated as a Senior Advocate on 29 March 2019. He had a regular practice in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh at Shimla spanning over two decades before he joined the bench. He practiced in all major fields of law with a special focus on Criminal law. He comes from an illustrious family of renowned lawyers in Himachal Pradesh. His father, Tek Chand Chitkara was a Senior Advocate at the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. His grandfather, Madan Gopal Chitkara, was the Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh and also Vice Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Administrative Tribunal. His grandfather authored more than 50 books. He was elevated as an judge of high court of Himachal Pradesh on 30th May 2019. He was transferred as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on 5 October 2021 and took oath on 12 October 2021.

ACHIEVEMENTS

On January 24, 2014, he apprised the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India with various suggestions on “Process Re-engineering (Criminal)” as a team member of Criminal Process Re-Engineering Team, H.P. High Court, Shimla. 2015, He Authored a Research Paper titled as “An Analysis of Recent Amendments in Sexual Offences Laws of India,” published in 2015(6) R.A.J. His Judgments have been published in various law journals i.e.
