Subpage of a non-existent page edit

Regarding the proposed speedy deletion, I'm a bit confused: what is meant by "this is a sub-page of a non-existent page"?

There are numerous templates like this on Wikipedia. The advantage of having this information in template form is that it saves space, and allows for changes to be made more easily in the event that an error is discovered.

Also, I don't believe it's good form to request speedy deletion when regular deletion has already been proposed (and the discussion is currently tilted toward keeping the template). CJCurrie (talk) 17:56, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's definitely not good form to remove speedy deletion templates. As the creator, you are not allowed to remove speedy deletion templates. I re-added the speedy template because you should not have removed it. I'm glad this time you're now following the correct process (any reason you didn't before?). Please don't remove speedy from pages you've created again. Mhiji 22:37, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I removed it the first time because I thought it was posted in error (I wasn't clear on the sub-pages definition). You're correct that I should have contacted you, but my sense at the time was that it was a fairly minor technical matter.
This notwithstanding, I still think it's inappropriate to have a speedy deletion notice on a page that's being discussed on a regular deletion page. This comment is not intended as a personal attack, and I hope it will not be taken in that spirit. CJCurrie (talk) 23:53, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
