Template talk:Tltt

More than one parameter edit

Thank you, Hersfold and Gracenotes, for contributing to this template! I see that it makes it more straightforward if users don't have to substitute the pipe with 124, but there are a couple of problems:

  1. It makes tltt longer, which affects all pages (more than 100) in which it is transcluded. I won't fuss about it per WP:PERF, but I'd like to consider it, especially in view of the next point:
  2. It doesn't work for 3 parameters. As soon as we want to describe a template with 3 parameters we will have to add another parameter. And then we will find one with 4 ...
  3. I don't think it hurts to keep the comment about the substitution. People who work on templates are usually smart enough to understand such things.
  4. With >1 parameters, we face the question how to name them. "par" and "par2" is just awkward, and the alternative of using "par1" when there is only one isn't much better.

Obviously, we need to have some cutoff point, and unless we have many templates with 2 parameters, I'd prefer to keep it at 1. Since Hersfold already created template:tltt2, how about using that for the 2-parameter version? The great side effect of that would be that it would allow us to do some nifty things there that we would want to avoid her for perf reasons, such as having tool tips for each parameter. How about if I edited that template to show what I mean? — Sebastian 20:47, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Substitution of curly braces edit

What's the point of substituting the curly braces? — Sebastian 20:47, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
