regarding “|+ TIA/EIA-568-B.1-2001 T568B Wiring”

The label on this illustration inaccurately implies that T568A and T568B were defined in 2001.

T568A and T568B wiring are defined in the “B” version of the spec as well as the “A” version, the original, “C”, and “D”, and presumably in the new “E” version. The label for this illustration need not refer specifically to what is, in effect, a randomly chosen ancient version of the standard, neither the current version nor the one that first defined T568A and T568B. I distinctly remember discussing in 1995 the merit of T568A and the absurdity of people using T568B in violation of the standard. T568A and T568B have nothing to do with specifically version B of 2001; it is merely carried over from 1991 in all later versions of the standard.

The current version of the standard is ANSI/TIA-568-D, though without access to the document it’s hard to confirm that section 1 is still the one that contains the definitions of T568A and T568B. If we want to refer to the standard that first defined T568A and T568B, then that is TIA/EIA-568, published 1991.
