Template image

edit

The current image for this template is either redundant or inappropriate for the most of the articles that it covers. Clearly the image is suitable for the Sex differences in human physiology article, but that article already includes the image. For other articles, like Sex differences in social capital, Sex differences in education, Sex differences in crime, etc. it doesn't make sense for this image to effectively be the lead image in the article (as it implies that physiological sex differences are important to these topics). Even worse, in those articles it also becomes the official "page image", which is the image shown in various interfaces to represent the article (for example, mobile watchlist and mobile search results).[1] Personally, I don't think any image is needed for this template and would favor just removing it. As much as I'm for WP:NOTCENSORED, I agree that there are images that would be better suited and cover a wider range of the topics in the template. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 20:20, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Agree. It's a bit comical on the social capital article. Wouldn't mind just losing the image, but I also imagine it would be possible to find a suitable replacement. Formerip (talk) 20:24, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I was the one who created the template, and also the one who added the image. I agree, and more than anything I threw the template together to tie any sex difference articles together. Preferably I would like to retain the image in the template box, but make it possible to use different images. I will look into replacements, and a way to allow different images for different types of articles. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 22:06, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I've commented out the image, but I think we could do with something suitably catchy, like this [2] not sure if it's PD. Thoughts? -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 22:11, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Something like that might work as it is more symbolic (and thus less associated with just the physical aspects). I know we have similar graphics like File:Autorecessive.svg. Kaldari (talk) 07:19, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I checked, it is PD. Will upload. I'd like to use something that looks a bit more modern than that illustration. I'll be back tomorrow on my ordinary computer (on my telephone connection now), so I'll fix it then. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 08:35, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
While intersex people (i.e., actually born with some combination of male and female organs) are a tiny percent of humans, they still do exist and even are mentioned in the first graphic in Sex_differences_in_human_physiology. I'm not saying the image should some how reflect that fact, but perhaps the template itself could. Also, why not use an actual naked male/female image like on that article? I agree, and that article uses a larger version of that images as its main. I'll see what I can come up with concerning intersex. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 08:35, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I used the following image #1:

What do you make of it? -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 08:42, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

This appears to be a symbol intended to be associated with bisexuality. I'm not sure whether it is a sign that is actually used or one that has been invented by a Wikipedian, but I don't think it makes sense for the articles in question. I'd prefer a blank space until there is some sort of consensus over an image. Formerip (talk) 00:22, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Organization

edit

This templates needs some organization. Just having a long list of articles isn't that useful. Kaldari (talk) 22:51, 9 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
