- Indeed on the 20th May for reasons that are unclear, and per WP:BRD I opened a discussion on the issue the following day here (the most appropriate venue,since it is page the change would affect}. There was plenty of time to discuss any substantive issue before the thread was archived on 6 June (or indeed up to today). By then one of the commentators had protected the template claiming that it is highly used (it is not). I requested unprotection, which was denied with the reason "ask the protecting admin first" (incidentally by another of those in the discussion). The protecting admin was asked, and declined without explanation.
- The protection has since been reduced to "Template editor" which is a good thing. But the improvement in the display of the "Status" field is still needed per consensus.
