Consolidation edit

Hi Primefac! The impetus for turning this into a redirect is that we had five (5!) different templates previously that all served the same purpose. I'm trying to consolidate them to make them easier to maintain. I chose {{Please ping}} as the centralization point, and I added all the parameters from this template so it should be fully backwards-compatible. It can be either substituted or transcluded — in the case of transcluding, it displays (please   mention me on reply) which is very similar to this one, and in the case of substituting, it displays (please use {{ping|Sdkb}} on reply), which I think is a clear improvement, since it allows others to easily copy the code rather than having to write it out.

I hope to turn the others into redirects as well (except for {{Request ping}}, which isn't going to be backwards compatible) if I can figure out the issue at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Creating template redirects with parameters. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 20:10, 27 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Primefac: just wanted to follow up about this, since you mentioned before that you planned to reply. Topically, this is tied to Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2020 May 17#Template:Not watching, although I didn't include this in the nom since I think this was already redirecting at the time. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 08:59, 29 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the nomination you mentioned CONSOLIDATE and "maintenance" but this is a simple user template that doesn't need "maintenance", and the fact that there are a half-dozen variants should be a good thing; it means that everyone gets their own flavour of {{tps}} notice. You shouldn't be trying to force your opinions on how someone should be able to reply to someone else that they don't need a ping. As fairly simple templates, they don't need a ton of maintenance, but for instance, the recent improvements I made to make it possible to either substitute or not is something that this template could benefit from, but I'm not going to bother copying over the code. As I mentioned in the discussion, my aim is not to force a format on anyone (all the options I built in should attest to that), but just to keep them all under one roof for consolidation (which is not just about maintenance — it helps with things like making them easier to find). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 20:54, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
