optional parameter does nothing edit

The optional parameter doesn't appear to do anything. There's no tool tip. The glyph doesn't change. Why do we allow it? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:09, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Because it does do something. If you look at the code for the template, it shows that the optional parameter "{{{1}}}" is used in the image's alt text. If a user hovers their cursor over the icon (assuming they're not using popups like I am), they will see alt text that reads "Missed [optional text]"; i.e. if the parameter reads "over the bar", the alt text will read "Missed over the bar". It's not terrific wording, but that's why it's there. – PeeJay 20:35, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

minute? edit

Similar icons allow a minutes (min) parameter. Would that be desirable here, so we can show when the penalty was missed? --Jameboy (talk) 23:36, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, that's assuming it can be used for penalties missed during regulation (as opposed to just shootouts). The documentation doesn't say anything about this, however. --Jameboy (talk) 23:42, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
As you’ve spotted, this template is intended only for use in shootouts, since penalties missed in normal time don’t contribute to the score directly and thus don’t need to be listed anywhere. – PeeJay 00:20, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, so I've had a first bash at adding a sentence to the documentation that makes this clear. --Jameboy (talk) 00:36, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Can any admin please add "| link=" to the image? edit

Can any admin please add "| link=" to the image?

Like the Pengoal template does, or else people are gonna click onto the picture itself, causing inconvenience

Thank you
