Template talk:Nrl2007ladder

Latest comment: 16 years ago by SpecialWindler in topic What to do with this template

Untitled edit

The point of this template is to only need to change one ladder, it used mainly of the 2007 NRL Season page but is also used on various clubs 2007 season pages. This saves everybody changing each one seperately. SpecialWindler 11:41, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the language i used in the edit summary, i'm just getting sick and tired of changing the 'Bulldogs' name back all the time. CEP78 04:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category:National Rugby League edit

I removed the 'Category:National Rugby League' link from the ladder template. The ladder appears on several clubs' 2007 season pages. So all these pages were appearing under the NRL Category. They should appear under 'Category:2007 in rugby league', so I will put a link to that in the template instead.--Jeff79 05:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bold Type on Team Pages edit

Is it possible to highlight an individual team's name on its page (eg highlighting the Raiders on the Canberra Raiders 2007 page) without it affecting every other page that has this template? Damanmundine1 14:16, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Certainly not anyway I'm familiar with. I suggest that once the season is over that we move this ladder to every individual page, then reuse the template for future seasons (once we move it to "National Rugby League ladder" or something. Once the ladder is moved over then it'll be easy to highlight the Raiders on their own. But for now I can't help you, sorry. mdmanser 15:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Could we all agree to leave the template how it is for now, it gets a little annoying changing it back all the time.Perdy80 23:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Updating the Ladder edit

At the moment, it's being updated straight after a match finishes, but it's a bit misleading if we do it at the end of matches, since a team can look like they're way ahead (or behind) where they end up after all games are finished. I suggest we wait till the end of the round before updating. Damanmundine1 12:37, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bulldogs edit

Leave club names alone. The argument has been going for a long time and we have settled on the fact that the BULLDOGS are called just that, not Canterbury-Bankstown, and nor have they been for 7-8 years now.

Please STOP changing this back. Even the club page is Bulldogs (rugby league team) now.

I couldn't agree more, it's starting to get annoying changing it back all the time. The name was changed to the 'Bulldogs' at the start of the 2000 NRL season. I think we can all agree on that.Perdy80 01:56, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template format edit

I can see the green line dividing top from bottom eight in Mozilla, but not in IE. Is this the case for other IE users? I only use a Mozilla view tab for IE, not the actual browser. Just wondering if it's a bug with the tab or a problem with the style border coding. ~ Florrie talk 16:38, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The formatting used for the table is based directly on the tables used for the qualifying groups for Euro 2008 - and indeed, both sets of tables don't show the green line in native IE7. While I'm not a web design expert and couldn't tell you the difference between the way that Firefox handles the style opposed to IE7, I was the one who changed the style of this template to match the style the Euro 2008 qualifying ones.--59.167.236.165 01:15, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't seem appropriate to use style coding that doesn't operate in a commonly used browser. I suggest we revert to the older style until another option is found, if it needs to be found. ~ Florrie talk 01:39, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just had a look at the Euro 2008 pages and, while I don't have an interest in them, maybe you should review the tables there, especially as you make reference to the dividing line in your text. Half of the readers referencing that page won't be able to see the green line! If I find an IE friendly code for the border, I'll let you know. ~ Florrie talk 01:46, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've found the problem with the code. Just fixing it now. ~ Florrie talk 02:31, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

ETA-It means putting the code into each cell for that line. Not sure if the possible confusion, given so many may edit the ladder, that it will be worth it. Positions 7 to 9 would need to be coded like this:

|7||style="text-align:left;"| Wests Tigers |22||11||0||11||1||505||498||+7||24
|- style="background: #ccffcc;"
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|8
|style="text-align:left;border-bottom:solid 3px green;"| Brisbane
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|22
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|10
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|0
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|12
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|1
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|459
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|389
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|+70
|style="border-bottom:solid 3px green;"|22
|-
|9||style="text-align:left;"| South Sydney |21||10||0||11||1||335||343||-8||22

Of course, we could just ignore IE users. ~ Florrie talk 02:55, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I too have done a bit more research on the issue - it seems that the problem is that IE does not like border CSS definitions in the tr tag - it only likes them in the td tag - which goes against W3C standards. It's my opinion that we should ignore IE users as a result of this non-compliance. Further to this, I also think that the green background shading should only be given to teams that have certainly qualified for the top eight (i.e, the top three teams at the present time) - and if something else is required to show IE users that the top 8 teams qualify, we should choose something else that won't break the appearance of the template on other pages.--59.167.236.165 03:42, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've made another change - it's not the most aesthetically pleasing change, but it should work from a functional POV on all browsers.--59.167.236.165 04:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Finals Series Qualifying Status edit

At the present time, the minimum number of points needed to reach the final eight is 23 (props to MDmmanser as I had it worng earlier). this is because Souths and Sydney City play in the last round. One of these teams is guaranteed at least 1 point from the game. As such, all teams on 18 points or lower at the end of round 23 cannot make the finals.--Spingo 06:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why does it matter? Is it necessary to highlight these teams in pink? When it comes to the end of the last round, those in the top 8 will be there, those that aren't - won't. And the top eight has been green all year, regardless of whether or not they were definite - why is it different now? Not seeing the sudden need for change, personally. ~ Florrie talk 06:28, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's no big deal I don't think if they're there or not - chances are users will add it back in if we removed them before the end of the season. I've also added another 2 columns for the last 2 and a bit rounds - all of the positions are 100% correct although I can't be absolutely certain. If you have any doubts, just put them here. mdmanser 07:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
What do the two new columns signify? ~ Florrie talk 09:30, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Highest and lowest possible finishes. I'm not sure if this counts as "original research" or not, but it might be useful for some supporters. mdmanser 10:13, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Special, you are right in saying that the Titans will not make the finals. However, then can make the finals. They will, however, have to hope that Brisbane and the Wests Tigers lose, and that they turn around their points differential by 200 to make it. Almost impossible, but it is a fact that they are still in it, but only mathematically. mdmanser 12:01, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't the Titans and Broncs still have to play to confirm the eight? 121.208.196.161 11:15, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

What to do with this template edit

It dosen't seem long ago when I created this template. How time flies. Anyway.

Now that the season is over, and under no circumstance, can the ladder change (Except rule breaches, which is now unlikely). So do we either

 1. subst the template on all the pages its on, then delete the template.
 2. Leave it as it is.

If no consuses I presume the second one will prevail. Anyway, Nrl2008ladder has been created (for some reason, I don't know). Good luck to your team in 2007 and 2008. (GO THE BRONCOS) SpecialWindler talk 10:53, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
