<nowiki>...</nowiki> omitted edit

Where can one find mention of the use of <nowiki>...</nowiki> to display raw Wikimarkup codes?

I've used the above, so I know it works.

However, Googling for "Wikipedia template nowiki" led me here. It looks to me like this article should include an example of that. However, I do not understand the "include" / "subst:" example here, which suggests that I could write something stupid if I tried to add it myself ;-)

Nevertheless, an example of this should be available someplace where it can be found. If it's not in this article, then this article should have a link to it. DavidMCEddy (talk) 17:27, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can somebody please tell me in plain English what the "nowiki" editing tag is supposed to do? I was attempting to add a cross-reference for a notable Chilean author, María Carolina Geel in an article about an hotel where she was involved in a crime. I was hoping to create a red link, since she is a woman deserving of an article in the English language Wikipedia (WikiProject Women in Red) but my cross-reference edit would not take because her name was preceded and followed in the edit window by "nowiki".

A cry for help edit

  • What is the "desired effect"?
  • What is the "effect"?
  • What is a Wiki template, or markup, substitution?
  • What is a Wiki template, or markup, transclusion?
  • What does the Wiki template, or markup, includeonly block do?
  • Please see the talk page. Thanks.Would someone who:
  • knows what this template does, and
  • is good at writing clear English explanations of technical topics

please write a clear explanation of nowiki/ ?

Perhaps you could help me, by pointing to a tutorial about this.
