Template talk:Nothanks-web

A few changes edit

I made a few changes to the template today, specifically to make clear that people can explain on the talk page why they think the content is free for use with more than simply a link. I had a note at my talk page from a user who was confused about where to defend content (in his case, a backwards copy). I moved the section for copyright owners up, since I do not wish people to suddenly just start explaining at the talk page that they own it so it's okay - at least, not more than they already do. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:35, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Suggest removal of Happy Editing edit

I believe their is a problem with the use of Happy editing! at the end of this template. I have a concern that it can be taken as a smug comment by the person on whose page it is written. Having just had or have about content removed ... usually very legitimately ... they will likely have to take a breath, analyze and understand the situation and proceed carefully forward. Happy editing is not the words to describe this and is more likely to inflame, infuriate and antagonise the editor rather than having a empathetic approach which would be more in keeping with Wikipedia's five pillars. I further observe someone tagging a potential copyright infringement will be asked by Template:Copyvio to file this Nothanks-web template on the users talk page. At that stage it is a potential issue not a proven issue, and even the name of this template Nothanks-web may be a non-neutral poor choice in this circumstance. The tagger may have reasonable concerns however at this stage it may even be that it is the other sitet has copied from wikipedia and the author has acted perfectly reasonably! Remove welcome message edit

Any objections to removing ", and welcome to Wikipedia" from the first line of the template message? When sending an article to Wikipedia:Copyright problems, {{Copyvio}} instructs you to place this notice on the contributor's talk page, but the welcome message doesn't make sense for anyone who is not a new editor. I've actually been manually removing it from my posts in a second edit when I send things to CP. The message already contains "We welcome and appreciate your contributions" so removing the welcome message won't make it more bite-y. DanCherek (talk) 15:18, 24 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
