Proposal to delete redlinks edit

At present, this template has more redlinks than blue. I propose that all redlinks be deleted. Since this is a navigation template, it seems to me that it is useless to have a navigation to a non-existent article. See the section on "Navigation templates provide navigation between existing articles", especially: "Red links should be avoided unless they are very likely to be developed into articles, and even if they do, editors are encouraged to write the article first." (WP:NAV) I cannot predict when, if ever, articles on the redlinks will be written.

I further propose that the title of the template be changed to "Michael John LaChiusa Work" or a variation on the word "work", because the works are 1) theatrical musicals; 2) operas 3)song cycles 4)other songs/work for which I have no name. JeanColumbia (talk) 18:53, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just to be clear, are you suggesting that the redlinked works be removed outright, or that the links themselves be removed but the titles of the works be left intact? As for your second proposal, I have no objection to a more inclusive and accurate title for the template. —MearsMan talk 19:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
To be clear: remove the redlinks, title and all. In other words, no title, no red-wiki-link. We do not lose the titles, they are all at the LaChiusa article. However, an alternate to my proposal is to delete the wikilink but leave the title. That, however, would not be useful, since this is, after all, a navigation template; without the wikilink there is nothing to navigate to! JeanColumbia (talk) 19:53, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I thought that was your intention but I wanted to make sure. My biggest concern was that we not lose any valuable information in the process (just because they don't presently have articles doesn't mean they aren't notable, after all), but as you pointed out all the redlinked works are mentioned in the article on LaChiusa, along with many others. If/when articles are created on these works they can be added back to the template, so I see no harm in removing them. —MearsMan talk 20:12, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

As there's been no further discussion, I've gone ahead and removed the redlinked shows. I've also retitled the template "Works by Michael John LaChiusa", but feel free to alter it if you feel something else would work better. —MearsMan talk 04:08, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
