Nickname edit

Can someone kindly point me to the discussion where the 'nickname' parameter was deprecated? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 17:15, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

It was no discussion. I boldly removed it. My reason and edit summary was "Almost always unsourced and not that important for most skiers. Can be mentioned in the text if it is important". Rettetast (talk) 19:46, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I also removed the same parameter from {{infobox ski jumper}}. Rettetast (talk) 22:25, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

skis edit

I would prefer not to have it in the template. It is a bit close to advertising.Inwind (talk) 10:38, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Additional podiums edit

I strongly question the inclusion of the line:

Additional podiums {{{additionalpodiums}}}

It is totally unnecessary, as anybody who is interested should be able to subtract the Wins number from the Total podiums number and get the result, the additional podiums, which means the number of times an athlete has made it to the podium without winning. This line is an insult to the reader because it suggests that the reader cannot subtract the 5 Wins from the 21 podium places to get the 16 times the athlete made it to the podium without winning. The number of "Additional podiums" is not related to the performance. For example an athlete who won 10 times and made to the podium 13 times will get the very low number of only 3 "Additional podiums", which sounds like a bad performance, but it is a low number because he won 10 times out of 13 competitions, which is a very impressive performance. So the "Additional podiums" number is both unnecessary and misleading.Roger491127 (talk) 15:31, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

World Ranking for each year edit

It would be more informative to give the reader, in the template or in the article, the ranking in the world for each season, like this:

Season Ranking

  • 2006 26
  • 2007 7
  • 2008 4
  • 2009 2
  • 2010 1
  • 2011 3
  • 2012 6
  • 2013 33

In such a table the reader can see how and when the athlete started the career, the performance each year, the length of the career, and when the performance became less impressive, and when the career ended.Roger491127 (talk) 15:31, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Four Hills edit

A field should be added for the number of Four Hills titles a ski jumper has won. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 15:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

No feedback for two months, so I took the initiative and added it. I've only added the field to Janne Ahonen so far, in case anyone strongly objects and wishes for the field to be removed. However, in another two months I'll add it for everyone. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:22, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Overhaul edit

I propose these changes:

  • Remove the "Additional podiums" field, as suggested above by User:Roger491127. I completely agree with it being almost insulting to the reader, for all they have to do is substract a few numbers to get the answer. Take a look at Template:Infobox F1 driver for how it should look. Therefore, there should only be one field simply named "Podiums". From what I can tell, removing "Additional podiums" will not break the infobox.
  • Split the "Wins" field into "Individual wins" and "Team wins". This will eliminate the ambiguous "(+team)" suffix which likely confuses casual readers.. hell, it still does for me. Again, I don't see this breaking the infobox in any way, as the all-important "Wins" field will be renamed to "Individual wins". It just means more work to be done, but I don't mind—I'm fully dedicated to this task.
  • Remove the "Awards" field for being pointless and having nothing to do with World Cup achievements.
  • Remove the "Skis" field, as suggested above by User:Inwind. Observe Template:Infobox alpine ski racer or even Template:Infobox NASCAR driver; no equipment endorsements listed for them. We don't mention ski jumpers' bindings or helmet brands, so their skis (which are always subject to change over the course of their career) should be of no relevance. Their FIS profiles often do not list them at all.

If no feedback within a few days, I will go ahead and do all this. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 02:46, 12 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Screw it, I'm doing it now. This is a niche sport on WP and based on the lack of talk page interaction here I doubt there will be any feedback, let alone objection. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:14, 12 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Embedding edit

Gunnar Andersen is a dual-sport athlete. It would be useful if this template could be embedded. Frietjes? MB 18:03, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

okay. Frietjes (talk) 18:10, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
