Merge with Template:Infobox Football club2

Just to support Qwghlm with his reversion of the merge, I don't think one user proposing a merge is sufficient consensus to go ahead with a change to this template without first proposing here. See the TfD for further details... robwingfield «TC» 11:03, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Indeed. The template as it stands (with a third kit) looks ass-ugly IMO and there is no consensus for its inclusion, at least not yet. Qwghlm 11:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay then, I'll leave that to you. It just needed to be recorded somewhere before deletion, and it didn't occur to me that it wouldn't be in agreement, what with a second template created. -Amarkov blahedits 15:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Additions to the Infobox Football club template

Hey Qwghlm. Is it allright for you that i am adding this parameters to the template. Secretary and Assistant manager. I think it's important that this things should be added to the template because of clarity reasons.

(SndrAndrss) 19 December 2006 21:03 (UTC)

It's not up to me, it's up to everyone here. Qwghlm 21:21, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Nickname(s)

The guidelines state that one (the most common) nickname should be used, but the current tag invites users to do otherwise. A change, perhaps? - Dudesleeper 20:08, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Owner

The Infobox needs an Owner field. In the past it used to be a fairly certain fact that the Chairman was the owner but now it's not always the case and in the Premiership it's almost the normal that the Owner (if it's a single entity) is just an owner and not the chair. The field could show a single persons name or in other cases it could show Private Shareholders or Public for clubs that are on the stock market. - X201 09:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Adding fields to the infobox has been discussed several times here and at the football project talk and almost all of the times consensus has been to not add any further fields. – Elisson • T • C • 18:15, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Website field

What do you guys think about adding an optional website field? Yonatan (contribs/talk) 13:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Adding fields to the infobox has been discussed several times here and at the football project talk and almost all of the times consensus has been to not add any further fields. The website link does just fine in an external links section, IMHO. – Elisson • T • C • 18:15, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Additions to the Template:Infobox Football club

Hello! Owghlrm. Can i discuss with you this following. Is it okay for you that i'm adding this parameter to the Infobox Football club template Chief Executive. I mean this is important because of both technical and clarity reasons SndrAndrss 18 February 2007 20:17 (UTC)

Motto

I'm suggesting a motto field be added. On some of the club badges, it's difficult to make the motto out. Thoughts? - Dudesleeper · Talk 12:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Better kept as prose, IMHO. – Elisson • T • C • 18:47, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I see merit in making the motto clear and I could see sliding it into the main body of the text or maybe into the trivia section, especially if there is a story behind it (I like a good story). Where I'm doing most of my editing (German football and related periphery stuff) I'm not bumping into a lot of mottoes, so that would just be another hole in the template for me. :( Wiggy! 19:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Coordinates

What about adding latitude and longitude coordinates for the ground, using {{coord}}? That would also add a Geo microformat. Andy Mabbett 10:33, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Better added on the article about the ground I feel, or added as an title box at the bottom of the page. L.J.Skinnerwot|I did 14:41, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
This infobox already includes details of the ground; it's helpful to users to give them the tool to find it in a map. Andy Mabbett 15:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Sheffield United F.C.

Need help making entries optional

Ok, I have tried to find the answer, mainly from this question: (My questions: Is there a way to make entries optional? E. g. if there are no graphics for the outfit yet, the box for the jersey shouldn't appear at all. Also some want to have different information for different clubs, so optional rows would be great). The answer says to look at the next topic, which was directly below it, using the hiddenStructure parameter. It doesn't explain anywhere how to make something optional. I'm working on an infobox for a fictional club in my sandbox, and I don't want to add kits, but they keep appearing. How do I make that detail optional? (in English, please, and if you are wondering why you should care for something that's in my sandbox, it's so I know what I'm doing when something's NOT in my sandbox). -Bardiak 17:28, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Fields can be made optional using the {{#if{{something|}}|optional-thing-to-include}} syntax. In the case of kits, you could probably predicate it on something which isn't optional when defining kits, such as {{{body1}}} (for the home strip) and {{{body1}}} (for away). Chris Cunningham 08:39, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
I've now altered the template so that it hides the strip box entirely if there are no strip details, and will only show one strip if there are only details for one strip. Chris Cunningham 11:48, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Help on a different wiki

Hi there.

I've been trying to set one of these infoboxes up on the Scots wikipedia (sco:Infobox Fitbaa club), but I can't get the formatting right.

We don't have much infrastructure over there yet, and I'm trying, slowly, to set it up.

Can anyone who knows about these things explain why mine doesn't have the nice formatting that yours has? Some of the entries are indented, none of them are bold, etc etc.

Thanks! 194.247.82.75 15:08, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

A Third outfit?

A growing number of clubs nowadays have three outfits, (or a second away kit if you like). A few examples are Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool FC, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester City, and Sunderland FC. They all have Home, Away and 3rd choice outfits. And that is just English teams. There are teams all over Europe that now features three outfits.

Is there an interest in modifying the "Infobox Football club" template to be able to define a third outfit? In its simplest way it is just to ad code and declare variables for another Football kit template with the title = 3rd Choice, and of course, define it later as

"| pattern_la3=|pattern_b3=|pattern_ra3=|leftarm3=|body3=|rightarm3=|shorts3=|socks3=|"

This will put a third outfit in the same row as the other two (and thereby make the infobox slightly wider). This is maybe not the nicest layout so if someone has a better idea I'm all ears.

A problem with the suggestion above is that if a team doesn't have a third outfit, (which is still the majority?) there will still be a third white "default" ?-marked kit visible in the infobox.

What is your opinion? Is it worth doing an additional "Infobox Football club 3kit" template to address this problem or could we live with three kits for everybody? Is someone skilled enough to make the kit "dynamic" (i.e. it disappears if not defined)?

I'm very much for standard solutions myself, so if it is possible to solve this with one new (i.e. modified), template that would definitely be the best way to go as apposed to do additional templates.

Suggestions and solutions?

Revenue

A "revenue" field has recently been added. I'd question the need for this. It is fairly unimportant information and for the majority of clubs it is difficult to source reliably. Oldelpaso 18:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

County FA / Regional Governing Body

Especially at non-league level - I'd like to see a field added showing which County FA a club is affiliated to. This could also link to a page on that County FA / Regional Governing Body (in the case of Norwegian or German sides) —Preceding unsigned comment added by WCR4 6 (talkcontribs) 14:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

The field doesn't help if the club is not an English one - this is a generic template after all. I'm with ChrisTheDude on this one - even if he is lazy. Wiggy! 14:56, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Strips are now optional

Including details of strips is now optional, and you can include details of only one strip if you like.

I've noticed that a lot of stub club articles have strip details filled in with all-white. These should be removed, and added as details can be found. Otherwise we've got inaccurate articles. Chris Cunningham 11:53, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

nicknames section messed up?

I tried to fix this, but it did not make a difference. If you look at Real Madrid C.F.'s infobox, the recent changes has offset the width of the box.. with the nickname "Los Merengues (The Meringues)", the second part is on a new line and it looks really messy/ugly. can somebody in the know fix it so it can be more flexible in width? - Bongobaily 14:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

ok I had another stab at this, and whatever Thumperward did was the issue. I put it back to the version before 31 October 2007 and now its back to normal, if you are going to change this thing, please make sure it doesn't not have a bad effect on articles (like it did to Madrid's page). - Bongobaily 14:07, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
This is now fixed. When someone tells me how exactly I'm supposed to test whether an edit works on every single football infobox without actually testing it, please let me know. Chris Cunningham 15:34, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Owner, Chairman, President solution!

I have an idea. I noticed that the manager's title can be changed. That should be done to the the Chairman's field. By default chairman, but if someone wants to show the owner or President in some cases (because a lot of clubs don't have chairmans, just presidents), then they can change the field. Anyone agree? --MicroX 22:39, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't see why this shouldn't be done, it has my support. Qwghlm (talk) 21:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Support for this (the "chrtitle" attribute) was added on the 2nd of December. Chris Cunningham (talk) 09:51, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Current season attribute

Can this be put at the bottom of the infobox rather than the top? That way it ties in better with the previous season's performance. Qwghlm (talk) 21:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't see that the previous season's performance is nearly as important. It's linked where it is more as a courtesy than anything else. In contrast, the current season is very relevant and deserves special treatment imo. Chris Cunningham (talk) 22:20, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
The previous season is important - current form can vary from week to week, while the previous complete season acts as a better summary. I think at the moment it forces an unnecessary ugly separation between club name and crest (both of which usually endure far more than the current season), and I don't think the current season is of utmost importance in any case - Wikipedia should avoid being too recentist. Qwghlm (talk) 23:16, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm open to be swayed on this, but if we're going to change this then we should do it for all the project infoboxen including the cups and leagues at the same time. For now I'm still opposed. Chris Cunningham (talk) 09:53, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
None of the other infobox templates, as far as I can see, have this attribute - {{Infobox National football team}} and {{Infobox football league}} don't, that's for sure. For competitions with "current event" boxes in them, they appear to be arbitraily placed within the article, not the template - e.g. Premier League uses its own special custom infobox. I don't mind putting in the work to make sure all these boxes are the same format as well (I made a start here), if you can supply a list of ones that need changing. Qwghlm (talk) 12:07, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
On further investigation I've found that {{Infobox football tournament}} does use a "current" attribute, so that will have to be changed too, but I see no reason to be bold and go ahead, if you agree (since you are the only editor of that template). In the meantime, I've edited some other pages with non-template infoboxes to put current season at the bottom to make them consistent with the proposal above. Qwghlm (talk) 12:24, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I've shifted it to the bottom of the infoboxen. {{Infobox football league}} isn't up to the job of being used for Premier League right now; I'll work on that later. Eventually I want shot of any custom tables for things like this. Chris Cunningham (talk) 15:44, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Great, thank you. I totally agree re:standardisation, in the next few days I'll look it over and make suggestions for improving {{Infobox football league}} - I'll drop a note over Template talk:Infobox football league. Qwghlm (talk) 16:10, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
