Use Wikidata to fill missing ID

edit

If the ID is missing from the template it should be populated from Wikidata similar to how {{IMDb title}} does the same thing. See Template:IMDb title#Wikidata for more information. Does anyone know how to change the template to incorporate this feature?

Apparently this was discussed back in 2013 here. Pinging the involved editors there: Dl2000, Gabbe, and WOSlinker. - PaulT+/C 14:01, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Do you an example page that uses this template and has the IMDb info on the corresponding wikidata page? As I had a look at a few random pages and couldn't find any myself. -- WOSlinker (talk) 14:07, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Chernobyl (miniseries) has the Wikidata item and (currently) uses both the {{IMDb title}} and {{IMDb episodes}} templates. (Presumably it could also be used as an example for the other {{IMDb}} templates as well.) - PaulT+/C 14:18, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

For a page like Community (season 3), I think it would be useful for the IMDB episodes link to point at the specific season that the wiki page is about. Kinda like Template:TV.com episodes does/allows.

Could that be done? Has it been considered/discussed? Bsammon (talk) 03:22, 27 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hm... looking at the sourcecode for the template, looks like it's been mostly done, but not as fully as the TV.com one, and not documented apparently. adding "season=SEASON" changes the destination URL generated, but it doesn't change the link text. This should be smarter

edit

It would be great if this template were as smart as {{IMDb title}}, which can find the IMDb ID number at Wikidata if it exists there. (Not sure I'm up for trying to implement this myself.) - dcljr (talk) 12:13, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
