On today's (8/3/12) "Did you know...": '... that Flaubert wrote of Raphael's mistress-model (pictured), "Fornarina. She was a beautiful woman. That is all you need to know"?'

Did you know... that this was a joke by Flaubert? Did you know... that his "Dictionary of Received Ideas," from which this quote is taken, is a "satirical work... lampooning the clichés endemic to French society under the Second French Empire" that "takes the form of a dictionary of automatic thoughts and platitudes, self-contradictory and insipid"? Do you think... that maybe this is important context for the quote? Otherwise it's rather misleading?

Hi; I was kind-of hoping people don't take him too literally, otherwise poor old Margarita won't be getting too many clix; I had also hoped the wikilink would help with the general context of this quote and that the 20 kb of starting prose would suggest she is indeed a fit subject for inquiry, but you're more than welcome to beef things up a bit, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 22:49, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
