Despite reading the link at Template_talk:Citation/core#treatment_of_origyear_parameter give in the edit summary, I still don't understand why origyear is indented in the documentation. Even if "origyear does not show if date/year not defined", it seems to me that origyear should be unindented with a note added to its description that it doesn't show if date and year are not defined. Under the current indenting scheme, it seems that origyear should only be used if date is not used. Jason Quinn (talk) 04:37, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Nested parameters rely on their parent parameters:
- parent
- OR: parent2—may be used instead of parent
- child—may be used with parent (and is ignored if parent is not used)
- OR: child2—may be used instead of child (and is ignored if parent2 is not used)
- Where aliases are listed, only one of the parameters may be defined; if multiple aliased parameters are defined, then only one will show.
