There is no requirement to use citation templates, and if an editor finds these templates helpful there is nothing to prevent their use; WP:CITEVAR says that if these are used they shouldn't be replaced by other methods. I can't find anything that says consensus is needed before using a newly created template, or linking to a newly created page, and there is no consensus against use of these templates, therefore the current message box appears to mislead. see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Wikid77 and new 'fast' citation templates. These were deployed to about 50 articles and broke a world of things. Absent a consensus on the matter, they should not be used other than as tests. See the several following threads, too. There are better solutions in the works than this. The note is to deter good faith users from re-opening this can of worms while the issue is discussed. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 00:38, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's why I changed the text, instead of removing it entirely: the templates had been used as replacements, contrary to WP:CITEVAR and without consensus. Changing from this to another template, in the absence of an established citation method for an article, would also be without consensus. Peter E. James (talk) 00:48, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
These are new; about a week old. They're problematic, disputed and have been reverted, as they broke things. Discussion is next, not use in new articles. I had a talk with a user (User:Quant18) who happened upon these and had used them in about a dozen articles. Seeing the dispute, they had no issue with shifting to the usual templates. Please leave this be. See the VPT for te proper solution to the purported problem. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 00:59, 12 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
