Please read what we've discussed I've brought up here first. ^demon[omg plz] 14:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Navou, I see what you said on the other page. I spoke with Gmaxwell (a month ago? 2?) when this issue came up last time. As a developer, I figured it would be best to trust him at the time. Would you mind if I invited him to this discussion so we can get another view on it? ^demon[omg plz] 14:46, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't want to take up too much of anyones time, but if he is inclined to briefly comment (or at length, his preference) I do not mind. Nathan 14:48, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
So we're disregarding the advice of a developer simply for ease of use by 1 or 2 people? Seems to not add up. ^demon[omg plz] 16:12, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Where? I don't see his or her advice. Nathan 16:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm trying to find the exact thread, but I assure you he did in fact tell us to remove {{purge}}. ^demon[omg plz] 20:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

You have come here because I removed a purge tag, and are probably wondering why. The purge function, available in the Mediawiki software, allows the software to serve a completely fresh page to the user, and not deliver it from the cache. This causes a full re-rendering of the Wikitext, et cetera. Sometimes, people put it on category pages as a "refresh" of sorts. For anonymous users, this does indeed update the category listing. For logged in users, it does not. Categories will update for logged-in users simply by refreshing. If it is not, that is because the job queue has not yet updated, and purging will not speed that up. Thanks, and have a great day. ^demon[omg plz] 14:37, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes I view categories as an anon. It is easier to click the purge link, rather than URL it in. Stack it up to ease of use. Nathan 14:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
But by and large maintenence categories aren't viewed by anons, mostly by logged in users. "Purge" puts a heavier load on the server than refreshing and reloading most of the page from cache. ^demon[omg plz] 14:42, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not worried about load on the server in this context. We don't have to worry about that. Let us make it easier for me, since there is not another compelling reason. You can pasts this to CAT talk if need be. Nathan 14:44, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

#ifexist

edit

This page contains 2952 #ifexist calls. In one week, the limit will be 100 (see the village pump). This is just a note that I'll be trying to reduce this number – which may mean taking out functionality. GracenotesT § 05:25, 2 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hm, it appears as though this is impossible. :( GracenotesT § 05:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
