editYou have come here because I removed a purge tag, and are probably wondering why. The purge function, available in the Mediawiki software, allows the software to serve a completely fresh page to the user, and not deliver it from the cache. This causes a full re-rendering of the Wikitext, et cetera. Sometimes, people put it on category pages as a "refresh" of sorts. For anonymous users, this does indeed update the category listing. For logged in users, it does not. Categories will update for logged-in users simply by refreshing. If it is not, that is because the job queue has not yet updated, and purging will not speed that up.
