Template:Xreadership/New pageviews instructions

Instructions for creating a new pageviews file
  1. add {{Xreadership}} to the Talk page below the rest of the banners; hit Preview, and click [show].
  2. open a tab or window for the /pageviews page (edit the page if link is blue), and for the pageviews tool
  3. download the pageviews data from the tool (three months's worth recommended) and copy it to the open /pageviews tab (overwriting any former data), but do not save it yet;
    how do I download the pageviews data ?
    Curabitur pretium tincidunt lacus. Nulla gravida orci a odio. Nullam varius, turpis et commodo pharetra, est eros bibendum elit, nec luctus magna felis sollicitudin mauris. Integer in mauris eu nibh euismod gravida. Duis ac tellus et risus vulputate vehicula. Donec lobortis risus a elit. Etiam tempor. Ut ullamcorper, ligula eu tempor congue, eros est euismod turpis, id tincidunt sapien risus a quam. Maecenas fermentum consequat mi. Donec fermentum. Pellentesque malesuada nulla a mi. Duis sapien sem, aliquet nec, commodo eget, consequat quis, neque. Aliquam faucibus, elit ut dictum aliquet, felis nisl adipiscing sapien, sed malesuada diam lacus eget erat. Cras mollis scelerisque nunc. Nullam arcu. Aliquam consequat. Curabitur augue lorem, dapibus quis, laoreet et, pretium ac, nisi. Aenean magna nisl, mollis quis, molestie eu, feugiat in, orci. In hac habitasse platea dictumst.
  1. test in Preview mode (important!). If there are problems, replace the call with {{Xreadership}} and preview again. Publish the page when the bar chart *and* the rest of the page are displayed properly.
  2. Optional: to view as much pageviews data as possible without blowing up the rest of the page, fine tune the value of |ct= to keep template usage high, but within bounds; i.e. PEIS below 2Mb; 1.7 is better. Be aware that if someone later adds complex templates in a discussion, they may not work if insufficient resources are left after the chart; keep the page on your watchlist and monitor changes.

Clicking the button below will open an empty edit window for creating a new /pageviews subpage. You will have the opportunity to view and verify it before saving. This is a low-risk, non-critical operation, and if it doesn't result in what you want, just try it again. If the data looks all wrong, just abandon the page without Publishing.

The boxed instructions at the top will appear above the edit window of the new page to guide you. However, once you Preview the new page with your changes, the instructions won't reappear, so it's probably best to right-click/context-click the button so you can continue to refer to the instructions here while you're going through the procedure in the new window.
