This is a template to generate links to pages at the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television linking to interviews about the specified person. It should only be used in the "external links" section of an article.

To link a specific television program, use {{The Interviews title}}. To link to interviews by a specific person, use {{The Interviews name}}.

Usage

edit

The required parameter is the ID text. The template then uses the article title as the anchor text:

* {{The Interviews people | ID }}
* {{The Interviews people | id = ID }}

To have the link text be other than the article name, use second parameter:

* {{The Interviews people | ID | Name }}
* {{The Interviews people | id = ID | name = Name }}

Instructions

edit
  1. Go to interviews.televisionacademy.com/people/ and search for the desired interview
  2. Follow the link to go to the person's page. Be sure the page has /people/ in its URL; these are the pages with interviews talking about the person. Pages with /interviews/ list interviews of that person.
  3. Follow the link to go to the specified page
  4. The URL will look like this: https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/people/<!-- ID -->. Copy the part of the url which is substituted here with <!-- ID -->. This will be the first parameter (or id=).
  5. Add the person's name in the next parameter (or name=) if it is different from the page name.
  6. Add one of the following to the external links section of the article:
* {{The Interviews people | id= <<!-- ID --> }}
* {{The Interviews people | <!-- ID --> }}
* {{The Interviews people | id= <!-- ID --> | name= <!-- name --> }}
* {{The Interviews people | <!-- ID --> | <!-- name --> }}

This can be used when the Wikipedia page name contains disambiguation brackets; for example at the page Roger King (producer) use {{The Interviews people|roger-king|Roger King (producer)}} to have "Talking About Roger King (producer) at The Interviews: An Oral History of Television" rather than "Talking About Roger King (producer) at The Interviews: An Oral History of Television". This is also necessary should you need to add an interview link to an article about somebody or something other than the linked person (for example, if you include the link for Steve Allen in the Meeting of Minds article, you must specify "Steve Allen" as the text for the link using this option).

Example

edit
  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
  2. Go to interviews.televisionacademy.com/people and search for the person you want (say, Walt Disney; you'll reach https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/people/walt-disney)
  3. Copy only the text after /people/ (here, "walt-disney")
  4. Replace "ID" in the template code with the text
    1. For the first option above, you'll then have * {{The Interviews name | walt-disney }}. When used on the page Walt Disney, the result will be:
      Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page "Walt Disney", use the second option:
    2. Replace "ID" with the text taken from the URL and "Name" with "Walt Disney"
      * {{The Interviews people | walt-disney | Walt Disney }} results in:
