Template:New language article/doc

Usage

This template creates the skeleton of a language article following the recommended format at Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages/Template. All parameters are optional, and upon saving the page any not filled in will be replaced with hidden comments to give instructions on what to put in that section. If a section cannot be expanded you may delete it or leave it empty at your discretion.

Parameters

The following parameters are passed directly to {{Infobox language}}. See the documentation there for specifics.

Parameters passed directly to Infobox Language

Parameter	Description
|altname=	Alternative names for the language
|nativename=	The native name for the language
|familycolor=	The language family of the language used to choose the color for the infobox
|states=	The state (as in nation state) where the language is spoken
|region=	The region where the language is spoken
|ethnicity=	The ethnicity defined by or which speaks the language
|speakers=	Most recent estimate of the number of speakers
|iso3=	The ISO 639-3 code for the language

The template has optional parameters for the text of each section. If text is not included, a hidden comment is created under the section to instruct editors on what should go in the section. For more information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages/Template

Article text parameters

Parameter	Description
|classification=	A description of the genetic classification of the language.
|history=	History of the language.
|distribution=	In what countries/regions the language is spoken, and how many people speak it there.
|official-status=	List which countries have this language as an official language or other special status.
|varieties=	List of varieties/dialects of the language.
|creoles=	Creoles and other languages that are derived from this language.
|Phonology=	Summary of the sound inventory and sound changes of the language.
|grammar=	What makes the grammar of the language unique compared to other languages.
|morphology=	General description of the morphology of the language.
|syntax=	General description of the syntax of the language.
|vocab=	Special features of the vocabulary of the language.
|orthography=	A brief description of the writing system(s) used to write the language.
|examples=	Some short examples of the language in the writing system(s) used to write the language.

There are some advanced parameters that can be included to change the default behavior of this template.

Advanced parameters

Parameter	Description
|stub=no	Suppresses the addition of {{language-stub}}. Use this if you've added a substantial amount of content in the article text parameters.
|in-use=no	suppresses the addition of {{New article}}. Use this if you don't plan on improving the article further.
|categories=	A list of Categories to be added to the page. If not specified, adds {{Uncategorized}} to the bottom of the page.
|interwiki=no	If the language does not have a Wikipedia, this suppresses the addition of {{Interwiki}}. See meta:Complete list of language Wikipedias available.
|interwiki-code=	The code for the wikipedia for this language, see meta:Complete list of language Wikipedias available.
