Meanings

Unit of measurement should be consistent with primary country of origin. Input to Template:Convert the actual values and units given in your source, and if needed, use the |order=flip parameter to output the bike's native metric or US units. In most cases, accept the Convert template's default output units and rounding, rather than force output units or precision. Fields which require lots of detail, clarification, or qualifications should be condensed or left blank, with the data and full explanation in the article body.

• name: Include both the make and model of the motorcycle.
• image: A representative image of the motorcycle taken against a background without distractions, sharp focus, and uniform lighting. A side view is generally preferred.
  • Formats like | image = [[File:Ducati 748 Studio.jpg|frameless|upright=1.35]] will work, but for consistency it is better to use the defaults for this template, using only the plain file name, in the form | image = Ducati 748 Studio.jpg omitting File:. The default scaling factor is upright=1.35, or 35% wider than the user's image width preference. Users not logged in default to 220px, which means the lead image will be about 300px. See WP:IMAGESIZE.
• alt: Text alternative for those who cannot see the image
• caption: Caption for image
• aka: Other names used by reliable sources. For the Honda CB600F: | aka = Honda Hornet (Europe, Brazil)<br />Honda 599 (US)
• manufacturer: Brand/marque name or division
• parent company: Industrial group or holding company which owns the marque/brand/division at the time the motorcycle was produced (if any)
• production: Dates of manufacture, with month, if known. Dates of sale, or model years are alternatives, but specify which.
• assembly: cities and countries where the model is built
• predecessor: Previous models from the manufacturer in the segment or similar
• successor: Following models in the segment or similar
• class: Use article types of motorcycle to see different classes and descriptions.
• engine: Use article motorcycle engine to see different types.
• bore_stroke: Use the {{convert}} template to convert both parameters e.g. {{convert|80.5|×|49.5|mm|abbr=on}}
• compression: The cylinders' compression ratio, e.g. 12.5:1
• top_speed: Maximum tested speed. Use {{convert}} for proper conversions. (Note: This parameter must be supported by a reliable reference)
• power: The maximum achieved power, preferably indicating the RPM in which it is achieved. (Note: This parameter must be supported by a reliable reference)
• torque: The maximum achieved torque, preferably indicating the RPM in which it is achieved. (Note: This parameter must be supported by a reliable reference)
• ignition: Type of ignition mechanism such as mechanically timed, electronic, or digital. Inductive magneto or Distributor and breaker points, CDI, etc.
• fuel_delivery: Type of fuel delivery system used, such as a carburetor or fuel injector. This field may include specific make/model of stock injector or carburetor
• transmission: First, clutch type (wet, dry, dual clutch). Second, number of gears ("6-speed") and type (automatic, manual, CVT). Third, drive type ("chain", "belt") Fourth, number of forward gear ratios, and the type of transmission (e.g. "6-speed manual, 5-speed automatic")
• frame: See Motorcycle frame for frame types. Frame material and type.
• suspension: Say "Front: xxxx" or "F: xxxxx" and "Rear: xxxxx" or "R: xxxxxx". May begin with brand.
• brakes: Front/rear as with suspension. Size followed by type.
• tires: Front/rear as with suspension. Use Tire code. May begin with brand. May add wheel material and type.
• rake_trail: Use the degree symbol °, a comma, and distance, e.g. 24°, {{cvt|92|mm}}

• turning_radius: Rarely relevant except to small city bikes like mopeds. "Turning radius" is identical to "turning circle".
• related: Bikes from the same manufacturer sharing a purpose but with different displacements, or sharing engines but with different purposes. Not competitors' models.
• range: Maximum traveling distance without refueling/recharging. (Note: This parameter must be supported by a reliable reference)
• sp: Use "uk" to display "Tyres" instead of "Tires"
• footnotes : Use to list citations that validate the data in the infobox or to note information about the terms, names and figures used. Generally it is not necessary to footnote uncontroversial stats, but performance claims, i.e. power, torque, weight and fuel economy, must be cited.

Notes

All fields must be verifiable with a fully cited secondary, third-party source. Manufacturer performance claims are often exaggerated and should be used only when they are credible and when independent sources do not exist. This particularly applies to:

• Top speed
• Power
• Torque
• Dry weight
• Wet weight
• Fuel consumption
• Range

When in doubt, leave performance statistics blank rather than include a dubious or uncited value. In most cases, uncontroversial statistics, such as wheelbase, fork rake, or tire dimensions, can be accepted from the manufacturer's claims unless another source raises an objection. Well-sourced controversies, confusion, or contradictions over these statistics should be described in the body text of the article.
