  • ... that before the National Gallery, The Avenue at Middelharnis by Meindert Hobbema (1689, pictured) was owned by the local council and a British Prime Minister? You can get the NG and Peel here. Actual ref used is: MacLaren, Neil, revised Christopher Brown, The Dutch School, 1600–1800, Volume I, 1991, National Gallery Catalogues, National Gallery, London, ISBN 0947645-99-3, which is not online.

5x expanded by Johnbod (talk). Self-nominated at 14:27, 12 May 2017 (UTC).

  • This article is a five-fold expansion of a recently started article and I have added a credit for the original creator. It is new enough and long enough. The image is in the public domain, the article is neutral, and I was unable to assess whether it met policy because the sources were not available to me. I am only approving ALT1 because the other hook does not have an inline citation. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:55, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
It has five or more, for example for for "untypical", there's (in the lead): "The untypically symmetrical and frontal composition of the painting appears to record very accurately the view Hobbema saw;<ref>Levey, 151; MacLaren, 177; Slive, 206". Then there's: "This painting is a surprising break from most of these somewhat "tired conventions of his earlier work".[16]" and "In contrast to his usual scenes of rough woodland, in this scene the straight lines, lopped trees, deep drainage ditches on both sides of the road, and regimented young trees in the plot to the right, all emphasize the man-made nature of this landscape.[17". I've dropped the "perhaps" as far too cautious, added some material. can you clarify what the problem is, if there still is one? Johnbod (talk) 18:11, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
I did not have this nomination bookmarked, so didn't see your comments. ALT1 is the hook I approved, it was the ALT0 hook that I didn't find properly cited. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:02, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
  • This is not a proper review by me of the nomination, but I just wanted to say that I like ALT1 best and think that File:Meindert Hobbema 001.jpg would be a better reproduction of the painting for the Main Page. Ham II (talk) 17:35, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Added for comparison. We lack a really good image. 17:54, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
