Pubs in Brighton
- ... that 100 beerhouses were licensed in Brighton (population 40,000) in the first week after the Beerhouse Act 1830 was enacted? Source: Collis (2005) p2 for the 100 beerhouses; Collis (2010) p. 247 for the population, although other sources confirming this are available. Both are offline sources. Exact quote for the first bit: "From 2 October 1830, a nyone whose name was on the rate books could open their house as a beer shop or beerhouse ... 100 licences were granted in the first week of October 1830 alone..."
