Potato production in Nigeria
... that Nigerian authorities brought in the cardinal to help with their potato production?- ALT1:

- Hi Kingoflettuce, review follows: article created 20 April; article exceeds minimum length; article is well written and cited inline throughout to reliable sources; I couldn't verify ALT0 as the article doesn't mention that the new varieties were brought in to improve production, if this is added to the article I am happy to approve that one; ALT1 is fine, I couldn't access the actual source used in the article (that it is seventh ranked in production in Africa) but I see that data from the FAO for 2018 places it sixth on the continent; no overly close paraphrasing noticed, though the "2008 – The International Year of the Potato" source comes back with a 404 error for me, can you check that is the right link? A QPQ has been carried out. No issues here, if you amend the article for ALT0 and ping me I'll look back in to approve it. Thanks for creating this article, I enjoyed reading it and have since been reading others in the series (though it looks like there's a gap in our coverage here for the many other countries that produce potatoes) - Dumelow (talk) 07:23, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks so much for the review. The bit on varieties is already a mouthful as it is, so I'm fine with sticking to ALT1 which is more sensible in any case--just my odd humour showing in ALT0. Anyway it states in Ugonna et al that Nigeria "is the seventh biggest producer of potato in Africa" -- PDF is downloadable, just Google the paper. As for the International Year of the Potato one, I admit I just lifted that bit from one of the previous potato production articles as it's very generic--it was defo live back then, something probably fell apart along the way. I'll get that fixed. Yeah and also took a bit of a hiatus, you are more than welcome to help chip in for whichever potato production in x articles you like! :-) Kingoflettuce (talk) 11:16, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this. If you tell me that a country is
one of the largest producers
, then I would think it's in the top 3, maybe 5. Having six countries before it doesn't seem so "largest". Would you like to suggest a different hook? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:26, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Yoninah, I see your point. Was admittrdly tryung yk stretch it lil :P How about... ALT2:
... that Nigeria is one of the largest producers of potatoes in Sub-Saharan Africa?Kingoflettuce (talk) 17:36, 19 May 2020 (UTC)- @Kingoflettuce: how about a different angle? Specifics are always more interesting than superlatives. Yoninah (talk) 17:40, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- hmmmmm well let me offer ALT3: ... that most potato farmers in Nigeria prefer hoes? Kingoflettuce (talk) 17:48, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Or ALT4: ... that potatoes were introduced to Nigeria in the 19th century by Christian missionaries? Kingoflettuce (talk) 17:48, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- ALT5... that The Kings in Nigeria are made of potato? Kingoflettuce (talk) 17:51, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the alts. Dumelow, would you be able to take a look at them? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:57, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
