Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 edit

Moved to mainspace by The C of E (talk). Self-nominated at 10:07, 10 March 2016 (UTC).

  • Neither of these hooks are April Fools-type hooks as they are plain statements of fact and not in any way misleading. Might I suggest:
  • ALT2: ... that a parliamentary act in Northern Ireland has outlawed the double and triple whammy? Gatoclass (talk) 15:02, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
"Whammy", ie salary. Gatoclass (talk) 15:56, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Gatoclass:, as an American, I am unfamiliar with that definition of whammy. The article is referring to double- and triple- "jobbing". Yoninah (talk) 22:08, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: As a Brit, I am also unfamiliar with whammy meaning salary. The reason why the original I put forward as a potential AFD hook because it was clear in the article, though I don't mind if it doesn't run on AFD as I only put this in to make up the numbers when they were a bit low. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 22:35, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I think ALT0 makes a great everyday quirky. Yoninah (talk) 22:40, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I agree with that. As I said, I don't mind if this doesn't run on AFD especially given the preps would already be overflowing on AFD. But I don't know if the 30 days politics rule applies as though the East Londonderry MLA is stepping down, his party isn't so does it need to run before 5 April due to the upcoming NI elections? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 22:49, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

I wasn't using "whammy" in a colloquial sense, it was just meant as a creative use of language, as in, an extra salary or two being a powerful addition to one's income. But if you think it's too obscure, forget it. I was just trying to come up with something a little more intriguing and hooky. Gatoclass (talk) 06:49, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

  • This article is new enough and long enough. Going with the original hook for the quirky spot, ALT1 being boring and ALT2 obscure. The hook fact is cited, the article is neutral and does not seem to have any copyright issues. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:35, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Thanks. I have volunteered to take this off AFD if we need to trim down the numbers but I would ask if it could run either Before 6 April due to the 30 days election rule (though not sure if that applies here) or at the very least Before 6 May. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:35, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Reopened. Discussed at WT:DYK#Queue 3 Northern Ireland hook. Basically, one slight twist of the situation to make it more intriguing, perhaps; but three dubious statements in one hook really is overkill. (Note that the hook wasn't in an April Fools Queue but in a regular queue). Fram (talk) 06:47, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

@Yoninah: @Cwmhiraeth: As we're having to go around the houses on this, ALT3...the last politician in Northern Ireland allowed to double-job is from East Londonderry? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:48, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
  • First, I'm moving this back to the April Fools Day page, where there are only 15 approved hooks for two 8-hook sets. Second, I propose reworking the hook for the play on words on "job", like:
  • ALT4: ... that while many people moonlight to make ends meet, Northern Ireland politicians cannot hold more than one job? Yoninah (talk) 09:37, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
C of E here. I agree with the new hook however I have included the Londonderry line as I feel it adds to the hook:
ALT5: ... that while many people moonlight to make ends meet, Northern Ireland politicians cannot hold more than one job apart from one from East Londonderry?
Now all we need is for it to be passed. The Royal C (talk) 10:49, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @The Royal C: but it's not accurate that none of them can hold another job other than the one in Londonderry. He, too, will have to give up his job when he is reelected. @Gatoclass: could you weigh in here please? Yoninah (talk) 12:16, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

- but if you're looking for an April Fools hook, nothing comes to mind. You might be better off looking for an alternative and just running this as a normal hook. Gatoclass (talk) 12:37, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

ALT6 is not very quirky. One point Fram was making was that they can have more than one job, but only one as an elected representative, so how about: Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:47, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
ALT7 or ALT8 are fine for me. The Royal C (talk) 13:16, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Thanks, @Gatoclass:, ALT9 sounds much more April Fools-y. Hook ref verified and cited inline. ALT9 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
