Miró Wall

edit
  • ... that mules were used to help transport the 7,200 tiles in the Miró Wall (pictured) from Spain to Germany?

basically okay, but please see my comment / question below Marrante (talk) It would be better to have the hook fact cited directly after the sentence. Marrante (talk) Marrante (talk) moderate Marrante (talk)

  • I would like to use this picture. We used to be able to do this on DYK by checking it would load before it did. Is there an expert who can check whether this is still possible? Victuallers (talk) 15:11, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
I reviewed Prior Park Victuallers (talk) 22:41, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- note - there is a query about the image whose license is based on freedonm of panorama. I'm told that this does not permit the work to be cropped out of the picture. If this proves to be the case then alternate pictures are available. Victuallers (talk)
  • I don't think the country names need to be wikilinked, or if you want, then use the city names (though it's a bit more distracting, perhaps, since people will be less familiar with them than with the country names. Also, the article has some grammar and spelling problems. Marrante (talk) 21:00, 3 October 2011 (UTC) Sorry Marrante but you suggest you want a compromise between using city/village names and using country names.... thats what I did. Do I get a gold star for anticipation? Spain is not linked to Spain. Do change it if you can think of a better compromise. Victuallers (talk) 13:52, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
  • It would be nice to see some other sources in addition to what you have. That one from the German transportation company is certainly reliable, but the English looks like it was written by "a secretary with a dictionary" (to use a translator's cliché). Marrante (talk) 21:39, 3 October 2011 (UTC) Thanks for review. Reliable sources have to be written in good english? Sorry but that doesnt stand up to any level of scrutiny. You are disinheriting 90% of the good sources in the world. I presume you were joking. Actually I feel very strongly about this. I would rather withdraw this nominatioon tham amend the sources based on someones expertise in English when you have conceded that the source is reliable. Victuallers (talk) 14:04, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Don't over-react to what I wrote. Instead, learn and improve Wikipedia! Of course, sources in good English are preferred! Are you kidding me? A source written in really bad English naturally makes a worse impression on the reader. You don't have to like it, but it's the way things are. Foreign sources are not a problem, but ones that look "cheasy" are and ones that have really bumpy English do not look good. I have submitted articles to DYK with no English sources whatsoever and they have all been approved. I do try to find at least one source in English, if I can, so that people who don't read the other language/s can read something to verify at least some of the facts, but to tell the truth, I don't worry about it too much. I go for the reliability of the source and prefer something well-written to any ol' thing just 'cause it's in English. That transportation information is unlikely to be in too many places, I would imagine, so you're probably stuck with that German website, but frankly, I'd use the German version (assuming they have it) as my source and include the English version for anyone who wants to look at it. As for "disinheriting 90% of the good sources in the world", your hyperbole is making me nervous about the standards you use in picking your sources. Marrante (talk) 23:03, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I have gone back in and fixed a couple of things I meant to do before, like add conversion templates for the LxW measurements. There was an additional question about content. This passage is very confusing because there are too many pronouns used and it's not clear who "he" and "him" is referring to. Also, you start out saying "Artigas was". Is he dead? If not, the verb tense needs to be fixed and if he is dead, the article needs to be re-read to make sure the tenses are right elsewhere. I know this jumped out at me when reading it the first time. Once these issues are addressed, I can approve this for the main page. Marrante (talk) 08:38, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
"Artigas was a second generation surreallist as his father had been a cermaicist for Picasso and Miro. When his father wanted to retire, Miro brought Artigas back from exile in France where he had been avoiding the Spanish regime."

All issues have been resolved. This nom is good to go. One note: I have removed the wikilinks from the country names, since they weren't to those pages and the countries don't actually need links anyway. Having one wikilink in a hook is okay, I think. Adding the city names to the hook clutters the simplicity, so I think the preferred solution is to just remove the links. If there are strong feelings about this, I guess you can put them back, but I frankly think it's better without them. Also, I hope the author will do more with this page. There's plenty more that can and should be put in the article. Marrante (talk) 21:47, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

  • Note: Country names should not be linked as per WP:OVERLINK and links should not be surprises as per WP:EGG. In other words, a link to a country that actually goes to a city within that country is not intuitive and in fact, if the country is Spain or Germany, which are hardly obscure, it's much less likely that someone will click on those links than if they say "Gallifa" or "Ludwigshafen", which are less known. Rather than take this note as a personal attack, which it is not, learn from it, as others have when they were informed (such as myself) and improve Wikpedia! Here's a little story: A college student was given constructive criticism in class by his professor. He bristled, getting angry. Then he stopped dead in his tracks, realizing the great amount of money HE was paying, in essence, for that professor to do that very thing! At that point, all anger left him, he listened and learned. It is true that not all criticism is constructive or valid, but it behooves the listener to weigh it without emotion, otherwise, those valuable nuggets will evade him and HE will be the loser. And besides that, sometimes, the negative can have unintended positive results. Marrante (talk) 10:51, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
