A couple of alts:

There is no real way to put the name of the article as it stands. Hook rules say "The title of the new article must be in bold and linked to the new article." and assuming given this, it is acceptable to do that. (I could be misinterpreting. Some one feel free to correct me.)

It does not need to be the exact title - it just refers to the fact that the nominated article's link should be bold. violet/riga [talk] 09:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Article expanded on date mentioned and to required length.
Format on all three hooks, title issues aside, looks good.
All three hooks appear neutral.
No plagiarism found in text surrounding hooks.
Suggested hook does not describe athlete as a refugee in the text. The SOURCE supporting it does, but the Wikipedia article does not. The hook would be acceptable if the article was changed to say he was a refugee. As this hook has a picture, I would suggest fixing that.

Article slightly changed to accept this. violet/riga [talk] 09:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Picture used in hook has the no copyright problems.
All other pictures in article are fair use pictures or have no copyright problems.
Alt1 : It says person. Should say ATHLETE as text says athlete, and indicates other people carried the flag, even if these were unofficial. I'd change Irish to "Irish immigrant", as opposed to an American born person of Irish descent if this hook is being used. sources are good though.

It does not need to use the exact wording but "person" could be changed. Using "Irish immigrant" lessens the impact of the hook. violet/riga [talk] 09:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Alt2: Text says "The fact that the U.S. flag is not dipped can therefore be said to be a law rather than a tradition." and this is NOT cited. There is nothing in the "Flag dipping" section which mentions legality. Section cites tradition.

While the exact sentence that states this is not directly cited the concept is covered by all the other references in that section. Adding a reference to this when there is not one would be disingenuous. violet/riga [talk] 09:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
As the preferred hook is the original, not a big issue now. I just didn't come away with that reading: My interpretation as a reader was it was a tradition that was not enforceable by law. It should have a cite, even if it is just previously used cites that actually say that. I'd probably remove it as I believe a DYK requirement is it be completely cited… but not a big deal for me. --LauraHale (talk)

Conclusion: None of the three existing hooks work as they are because of wording issues, or citation issues coupled with text issues. --LauraHale (talk) 05:06, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Notified user of issues to help speed along waiting issues. :) --LauraHale (talk) 05:09, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the notification and in-depth review. violet/riga [talk] 09:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Good to go: Changes made as requested. No problems with the hook, cited references and article text as it pertains to hook. --LauraHale (talk) 10:10, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
