Empire Exhibition, South Africa

edit
  • ... that first ice rink in Africa was created for the Empire Exhibition, South Africa? Source: the source of the fact can be found on page 489 of Findling and Pelle's Encyclopedia of World's Fairs and Expositions

  • New and long enough, nominator is QPQ-exempt per QPQ check results, a copyvio check reveals no problems, hook content is interesting and is verified with a citation to a reliable source in the article (AGF per the offline source). The only matter is that per D2 of the DYK Supplementary guidelines, the second paragraph in the lead needs a reference and inline citation, since its content is not mentioned or cited later in the article. Thanks for looking at my DYK submission, and for giving me the chance to address missing guideline D2. Unfortunately my original source for the fact is dead, so I have reworked in line with another citation.
I hope that this is sufficient. but if not I will have lived and learnt.
Whilst recognising that this still assumes good faith, the offline Hughes statement about the ice rink is: "...is especially notable, however, for building the first ice rink in all of Africa, one of its major entertainment features."
