Basilica of Our Lady of Hungary

  • ... that parts of Basilica of Our Lady of Hungary was thought to be Gothic until wall probes showed otherwise? Source: Bozóki L., „Gótikus” építkezés a XVIII. században Márianosztrán. [’Gothic’ construction in the 18th century in Márianosztra]. Műemlékvédelem, XLVII/2, 128-132 (2003).

Overall: @Jan Spousta: So, some problems.

  • "The church in today's form is by architect Zsigmond Berényi, from the beginning of the 18th century." Weird sentence, needs to be rewritten.
  • "The sanctuary was thought to be Gothic until Lajos Bozóki probed its walls in 1990 and 1999 and found that the whole sanctuary was built in the 18th century." How does it being made in the 18th century prove it wasn't gothic?
  • "The message of these medieval-like forms can easily be interpreted: the settlement of the Pauline Order in Márianosztra is not some kind of new beginning but the continuation of the medieval life of the monastery." This quote needs to be attributed to someone.
  • What makes GCatholic and Magyar Katolikus Lexikon reliable sources?

These are going to need to be fixed. Onegreatjoke (talk) 22:29, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Onegreatjoke:,
1. Would it be better to write just "The architect of the church was Zsigmond Berényi."?
2. The true Gothic architecture ends in 16th century. Younger buildings in this style are regarded as forms of Gothic Revival architecture.
3. The quote is by art historian Gergely Domonkos Nagy.
4. GCatholic is a non-profit database 25 years online, quite reliable for this type of information. Magyar Katolikus Lexikon is an online version of a 15 volume printed encyclopedia, see https://szitkonyvek.hu/termek/104 Jan Spousta (talk) 10:24, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Reping to Onegreatjoke, in case they missed this. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 09:21, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
@Jan Spousta:
1. Yeah that would be good. (You've already fixed this)
2. If that's the case then it would be good to specify that in the article.
3. It would be good to mention that then (You've already fixed this).
4. Alright, guess I will have to AGF on that.
Once you fix the second problem I could approve it. Onegreatjoke (talk) 17:09, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
I guess it's better. Onegreatjoke (talk) 20:16, 11 March 2023 (UTC)
@Onegreatjoke: Good, thank you. I added the info there.Jan Spousta (talk) 19:04, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
@Onegreatjoke and Jan Spousta: Correcting the hook which states "that parts of Basilica of Our Lady of Hungary was thought" I believe it should be "were".
