Barrow Court
edit- ... that Barrow Court (pictured) and the Church Of St Mary And St Edward are on the site of the Barrow Gurney Nunnery?

- Long enough, new enough, reads well, but hook not fully supported by refs and ref no 5 links to a restaurant site! In particular, the refs tend to indicate that Barrow Court was converted from, rather than built on the site of, the old nunnery and I can find no ref to say that the church was also built on the site of the nunnery. However, a simple re-wording might do it. Bermicourt (talk) 20:42, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to reword it; however it was converted in 1538 and then (largely) rebuilt in 1545 - therefore I was playing safe in that it was on the site of as I have found no evidence of any of the original fabric still being in the building. The church pre dated the nunnery but was (largely) rebuilt in the 1880s. If you look at the plan at the bottom of the nhle ref you will see the buildings are actually touching i.e. all part of the same site.— Rod talk 21:04, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- What about:
- Alt 1: ... that Barrow Court (pictured) was originally a Benedictine nunnery until the Dissolution when King Henry VIII granted it to John Drew as a private residence?
- ... which I feel is more closely supported by the sources.Bermicourt (talk) 13:26, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
- Needs new reviewer for ALT1. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:22, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
- The hook fact cannot be verified with the footnoted Ref.#5, which is a website that provides info on local restaurants, but local means the city where I log in, and I am not located in Barrow Gurney. Please check URL. Would Ref.#8 by useful for the same claim? --PFHLai (talk) 19:46, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- I've removed the pub reference & replaced it with one to this English Heritage National Heritage List reference - does that help?— Rod talk 21:09, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you, Rod. ALT1 is now verified. BTW, I disambiguate "Dissolution" in the hook. --PFHLai (talk) 21:42, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
