Ashley Everett

edit

* ... that Ashley Everett decided against attending the Juilliard School, despite already being accepted and enrolled, so she could continue touring with Beyoncé?

:* ALT1:... that Ashley Everett was asked to dye her hair red by Beyoncé in 2009, and now won't change it back because of how popular it is with her fans?

  • Comment: Personally much prefer ALT1

  • The article is new enough, being created on the date it was nominated on (Apr. 17). It has not been featured on the main page and its readable prose is long enough. The subject is dealt with in a neutral manner and there are no dispute templates and does not contain plagiarism. The user does not have to complete a QPQ because they have nominated less than five articles.
The resource cited for the first DYK does not mention Juilliard School so it cannot be used. In ALT1, the section about not changing it back because of how popular it is with her fans is not technically true. The citation says she wouldn't change it back because she "thinks people will miss it." I wouldn't be comfortable having that appear on the Main Page. Besides, a shorter hook is more likely to catch a reader's attention. I propose:
ALT2:... that Ashley Everett was asked to dye her hair red by Beyoncé?
If you like ALT2 please respond below. Otherwise let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Z1720 (talk) 04:01, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
@Z1720: ALT2 is fine! Appreciate you reviewing this after it has been waiting for so long too ThirdWard (talk) 08:57, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, further edit. I have fixed the ref with the original Juilliard School hook. Before your copyedit, there was two VIBE articles. I just noticed one of the articles had the title to the Juilliard School reference, but the link to the unrelated, other, VIBE article. I have now fixed this, and the hook is cited in the first page of the VIBE article. If possible, I would prefer ALT1, as I think it has more depth to it than just a fact about hair colour. But it is up to you, as I see how ALT2 is shorter, snappier, and tempts the reader to find out more. ThirdWard (talk) 17:28, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
@ThirdWard: I've taken a look at the new Julliard citation and it's within Wikipedia policy. I agree with you that the ALT hook is better, so I think we should focus on that for the DYK.
I am still uncomfortable with ALT1 because the second half of the hook is not what is stated in the cited article or on the Wikipedia page. Also, the DYK instruction page says hooks should be "short, punchy, catchy, and likely to draw the readers in to wanting to read the article." I think ALT2 fulfills that criteria more effectively than ALT1.
If you want we can bring in another editor to review the hooks and bring another perspective.Z1720 (talk) 20:18, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
@Z1720: I am honestly not too bothered. Like I said, it is up to you. I have been waiting on this for what feels like forever now, I'm just glad it's being reviewed! If you are comfortable with ALT2 then by all means finish up the nomination :) ThirdWard (talk) 22:47, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
ALT2 approved for Main Page. I'm sorry you had to wait so long for a review ThirdWard, it sometimes happens that way. Keep up your hard work and I hope you nominate more articles for DYK. Great job! Z1720 (talk) 22:59, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
