A volcanussy on Herbert Island
  • ... that a volcano has a volcanussy (pictured)? Source: [1] - "The spout of a volcano is its volcanussy." This might make a good quirky hook.(?)
    • ALT1: ... that the suffix -ussy has existed in LGBT slang since the early 2000s? Source: [2] - "The website Robert Scott’s Gay Slang Dictionary contains both “boy-pussy” and “man-pussy” but not their blended forms. Both were submitted by a London-based user in July 1999. The earliest entries in Urban Dictionary date back to 2004 (though in the earliest entry, defined as “butthole pussy”)."
    • ALT2: ... that the suffix -ussy was named the word of the year by the American Dialect Society? Source: [3] - "...future linguists will be shaking their head at the American Dialect Society’s choice for 2022 word of the year: '-ussy.'"

  • – Article is new enough and long enough (by the skin of its teeth on both counts). ALT2 seems the most interesting and DYK-worthy to me—ALT1 uses information and an image not in the article, and ALT2 seems less interesting to a general audience in my opinion. • @DecafPotato: A question on hook numbering - The base hook (what I would call ALT0) is the one that uses the image. Could you be more specific as to which hook "ALT2" refers to? Also, the article does mention "volcanussy", but if having the image in the article is preferred I would be happy to go for a pizza-based hook (though I'm not sure how much DYK would mind seeing as it was not in my original nom). • "ALT2" refers to the third hook (the one regarding the suffix being chosen as word of the year). For the record, it's perfectly fine to revise/tweak/even create new althooks after the initial nomination, but in this case I still believe ALT2 is the most interesting. • Note to promoter: For anyone else wondering whether MEL Magazine (cited in the article) is a reliable source, the discussion is here:Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_271#MEL_Magazine The volcano image is not in the article so the picture cannot be used. • I've added the image to the article - I don't think it makes the layout too squished. AviationFreak💬 03:04, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
  • Stumbled across this and, if I am able, wish to endorse ALT0 as it is by far the most interesting/click-worthy blurb, given the subject matter. The other two -ussy blurbs are more informative upfront, but we should avoid them being too dry (pun only slightly intended). BlackholeWA (talk) 21:33, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
Agree! Much prefer ALT0 as it's very attention-getting. Think it will work very well as the quirky hook in the bottom slot. Positioning it as the quirky hook also helps us avoid letting down any readers who think the article is going to explain the science of volcanos, hopefully, as I'm not necessarily convinced that every volcano has a "spout" although they probably all have "cavities".
