The name of an article is given, and the template returns the name, followed with whether it is listed or not at the standard (or user specified) DYK location.

{{DYK item|Mass surveillance in North Korea}}

Mass surveillance in North Korea, listed at DYK.

The template takes one parameter, the name of an article which may or may not have been proposed at DYK. The DYK should generally go at a standard position relative to the article, so this should yield the proper DYK link. Except if there are two articles in one hook, in which case the naming system can get strange. For that a second parameter can be used which overrides the name

{{DYK item|Abu'l-Qasim al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Maghribi|Abu'l-Qasim al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Maghribi, Mufarrij ibn Daghfal ibn al-Jarrah}}

Abu'l-Qasim al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Maghribi, listed at DYK.

Note: if the article name contains = (e.g. Silence = Death) you should use "1=" at the beginning:

{{DYK item|1=Silence = Death}}

Silence = Death, not listed at DYK.
