This template was created to easily update any relevant article with the 1970-71 NHL East Division standings, rather than creating a separate wikitable for each article.
To use the template on any article, insert:
{{1970–71 NHL East Division standings}}
The template also has the capability to highlight a particular row of team's statistics in green, simply by appending a three-letter code to the template name. For example, if you want to highlight the Vancouver Canucks' statistics, insert:

The codes for all teams in the West Division are as follows:
- Boston Bruins = BOS
- Buffalo Sabres = BUF
- Detroit Red Wings = DET
- Montreal Canadiens = MON
- New York Rangers = NYR
- Toronto Maple Leafs = TOR
- Vancouver Canucks = VAN
