Rozita Swinton, (born 1974-'75) is a Colorado Springs woman with a history of making false police reports by phone and now accused of playing a role in triggering the raid by police and child-protection authorities on the Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints Yearning For Zion community.
In 2005, Swinton plead guilty to misdemeanor false reporting in Colorado. In phone calls, she said she was a suicidal 16-year-old named Jessica who had just given birth. [1]
A warrant also linked Swinton to October calls from a "Dana Anderson." "Dana" said she was being abused by her pastor at a Colorado church. It also links her to calls by an alleged 13-year-old who said she was being drugged and sexually abused by her father. [1]
In February 2008, Swinton called 911 and said her name was "Jennifer" and that she was injured and in a basement. Colorado Springs Police arrested Swinton for the call in April. [2]
She also has been accused making calls made to a crisis center run by Flora Jessop and pretending to be a girl in another FLDS compound. During the call, Swinton reportedly said in a little baby voice, "If you rescue me, and I get out of here, do you think the black people will hurt me?"[3]
USA Today reports documentation showing that Texas Ranger Brooks Long called Colorado officials about two phone numbers. The document says one of the numbers, "was possibly related to the reporting party for the YFZ Ranch incident," and was one of the numbers police had connected to Swinton. During a search executed in conjunction with Swinton's April arrest for the February "Jennifer" calls, Texas authorities have also found items "suggesting a connection between Swinton and calls regarding the Eldorado retreat and other Texas and Arizona compounds owned by FLDS". The Texas Rangers said Swinton became a "person of interest" several days after the raid. [2]
