Speedy deletion grounds contested

Hi. I don't think this page is a vanity article. Xoom was a pretty substantial presence on the web. It even received coverage from The Motley Fool in 1999 [1]. --Takeel 15:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I know that Infospace purchased some of the pieces, when NBCi (which included XOOM) was broken up. I'm not sure if they ended up with the websites, or if those were sold off to somebody else, or if the drives were just wiped clean and sold at auction, or what. --Xoom.org 01:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

XOOM Italia

I added back some of the material edited out by User:Takeel, since at least the Italian XOOM was at one time directly connected to the subject of the article. I don't know about the Mexican XOOM, so I left it out. I'm not sure how to find a source for this, however, since anything still online is probably in Italian and I don't read Italian. I worked for XOOM at one time and worked on the XOOM Italia project, but since I'm not sure how to prove that either, I certainly can't count as a reliable source. --Xoom.org 01:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Propose to update page based upon new owners of xoom.com domain.

I am proposing to update this page based upon the new owners of the xoom.com domain.

Also I'd like to update the categories for the page since this domain is no longer defunct.

Also, we should keep the existing content on the page with a new headline of "History of Xoom.com Domain"

Xoom.com is the website of the Xoom Corporation, a San Francisco-based money transfer company. The company was founded in 2001 and is backed by the venture firms [Sequoia Capital], [New Enterprise Associates] and [Fidelity Ventures]. Xoom.com's web-based money transfer service allows individuals to send money from any Internet-enabled computer to friends, family and businesses to 31 countries worldwide. Senders can use PayPal, major credit cards, or have funds withdrawn directly from their bank account to fund the money transfer.

Recipients can receive cash in local currency or US dollars. Xoom.com offers money transfer services to over 30 countries worldwide and Hong Kong.

Oppose the current company is probably not notable (according to WP guidelines), whereas the prior one was. The company currently using the xoom.com domain was already mentioned in the previous version of the article, and does not warrant being the main topic of the article. The two companies should either get their own articles (similar to the situation with SCO or Viacom) or else it should be reverted to the previous version that focused on the webpage hosting company during the dot-com boom. --Sapphic 23:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I have moved the content related to the Xoom Corporation to an article at Xoom Corporation (which was almost immediately tagged for speedy delete, although I've attempted to block that) and reverted this article to the previous content related to the 1990s-era web hosting company. --Sapphic (talk) 02:08, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Timeline and amount of space offered seem inaccurate

The current revision of the article says "In March 1997, Xoom became a web hosting (offering 100MB) [..] website", implying they offered 100 MB of hosting in March 1997.

However, an April 1997 crawl from Internet Archive doesn't mention web hosting at all. A later crawl from December 1998 shows Xoom was offering 11 MB of space at that time, an order of magnitude less than the article claims. I briefly used Xoom around 1998, and 11 MB of space better matches my recollection — they had more than any other free hosting site I knew of, but it was on the order of 5 or 10. How did it end and how did NBC buy it?

I remember xoom.com from my early days of Internet. For me, it was like some later social media, which we use for some time then stop logging and when we remember about it and to look how it is, it's gone. A few years ago I remembered about it, went see how it was, and found some money transfer service and no word about the web hosting company.

I thank everybody who contributed to this page. Sadly the part about it being bought by NBC and ending its web hosting service is not clear, which is the most important section, the one I came looking for.

How was xoom.com situation before it happened? How did it fall? How and why was it bought? Anybody who knows about it, specially if knows any article talking about it, plz add the information. Even Google knows little about the service and maybe nothing about this period. I looked on archive.org and all dates I looked got not found.
