Use of past tense edit

Why was this article written entirely in the past tense? While it is true that DOS and XTree are no longer being sold, the software still exists in the sense that it doesn't age and die like a living being and it doesn't get sent to the scrap yard and melted down like an old computer, automobile or ship.
