Talk:World trade centers

Latest comment: 16 years ago by 216.179.123.147 in topic Center or Centre?

Maybe the World Trade Centers Association needs to take some responsibility for the accuracy of this page. I know for a fact that the Buffalo-Niagara WTC is not closed. Also doubt that there is one in Wilson, NC. The last time I was in Wilson, admittededly almost 30 years ago, they had a billboard as you entered the town, stating "Welcome to Wilson, NC. The Klan welcomes you.

I would definitely roll the NYC WTC into this page, with a link to the article on the terrorist attack, but don't have one with lower case and one upper case. That just seems silly.
Speaking of silly, do we really need some verification that the crash of two airliners caused the collapse?

Do we really want two articles that differ only by capitalisation? Perhaps it can be moved to world trade centers.--Jerryseinfeld 22:45, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Maybe this should redirect to World Trade Centers Association and not the opposite. Ricardo Monteiro 22:01, 10 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Is the Wilson, NC one a joke? I've been to Wilson, and there's not much there...

There is a world trade centre in the new 'Hub:MK' high-rise development in Milton Keynes, UK. The building complex itself is very prominent, visible from miles away, although I don't know how significant the WTC part is. Any thoughts on it or including it? World Trade Center Destruction

edit

This page in its self seems redundant if this section is talking about the destruction of a particular WTC. I would suggest removing this paragraph that does not cite sources. Many experts disput that these planes have caused the collapse of the towers. This engineer certainly shows skeptiscism. Erichwtl 05:23, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

300 twintowers?

edit

And where are they? This is false. World trade centers are usually low buildings. And there are certainly no 300 twin buildings, either. This should be removed. Endimion17, 4:37, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposed merge with World Trade Center (disambiguation)

edit
  • Agree - it should be merged. I am a foreigner, and I wanted info about the World Trade Centres, and I got this page and it took me for surprise. Smooth0707, 2:06, 19 September 2006
The only problem is the film because all other items on the disambiguation page refer to the WTC's. I'd be comfortable with migrating all other items besides the movie to [World trade center] but that still leaves the movie, which to me doesn't fit into the theme of the [World trade center] article. Maybe just leave the movie as a single alternative on the disambiguation page? I know that's not a merge but it's the only problem with doing a merge. Use your best judgement I guess. The movie could be added at the top as a {{Otheruses4}} template as in, for example, Once Upon a Time in the West. RoscoHead 10:06, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Agree - The concept of a "world trade center" is worldwide, and in line with WP:BIAS, we should show this accordingly. While there will be other uses (like the film), the centers are the main focus, and just like any other disambiguation pages, it can deal with it - Jack · talk · 04:28, Sunday, 11 February 2007

Immediate cleanup needed

edit

Hi everyone. This is just a strong suggestion regarding all WTC pages.
Currently, most of the WTC articles of different countries are titled in different formats, for example:

  • World Trade Center (Manama)
  • World Trade Center New Orleans
  • Baltimore World Trade Center

So my suggestion is to rename (move) all individual pages to this format:

  • World Trade Center (Manama)

...<World Trade Center> followed by <WTC Location>, so that is is much more easier to navigate and recognize.

The other important suggestion i'd like to add is, not to merge the World Trade Center (disambiguation) page because it is needed (to separate into WTC Movies, WTC Lists, etc). But it is better to merge the World Trade Centers Association with World trade centers because obviously we cant just leave a page with just a list of global WTCs... And, anyway, i think both pages suits together... :-)

We can start by renaming all individual WTC articles of each country to the above mentioned format. Then, merging the World Trade Centers article and World Trade Centers Association article. Then, including the links in the table of the new merged World Trade Centers Association article...

Feel free to post any comments about this method of arrangement... ;-) --Rehman Abubakr (talk) 09:20, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oppose: for rename Taipei World Trade Center into "World Trade Center (Taipei)" because the name usage of "Taipei World Trade Center" had become a frequently used official name by Taiwan External Trade Development Council and several news organizations in several trade shows especially TAITRONICS, COMPUTEX, and several shows in Taipei Trade Shows. It's mostly well-known with its venue as its name. In addition, several buildings managed by TAITRA were derived from the "Taipei World Trade Center" including a newly-launched Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (In official: Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall) and International Trade Building (Official Full Name: Taipei World Trade Center International Trade Building). I think that Rehman Abubakr should better ask the officials from TAITRA before renaming this article. 06:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Dear Brock, i think you have misunderstood the idea. The proccess of renaming any or all Wikipedia Articles relating the WTCs which are registered under the WTCA is only to follow up with the Wikipedia Guidelines. And it is not required to rename the article headline itself. If a particular WTC is popular for its name and cannot be renamed, then simply create a redirect page or edit the link title, as simple as that. Many WTC articles have already be altered to this format, so please feel free to express your suggestions :). Kind regards. --Rehman Abubakr (talk) 09:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Reply: Sorry for a stronger expression, I proposed my suggestion based on several international trade shows' information, redirection is OK, but article name may not proper to be. Brock contact... 17:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article for this talkpage doesn't exist

edit

Dear editors of this article,
Please note that the article World trade centers doesn't exist anymore (it has been moved to World Trade Centers Association some time ago), therefor this talkpage is no longer a part of that article. Please leave your comments here and not on this talkpage. All comments welcome. Kind regards, have a good day. --Rehman (talk) 02:54, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Center or Centre?

edit

As WTC represents a proper name, personally, I believe each WTC's mentioning in Wikipedia should use the spelling of Center/Centre that is the "correct" use for each individual WTC. The most obvious example, of course, is the WTC that was destroyed on 9/11; it should ALWAYS be spelled as Center, out of respect of the many victims. (Some Wikipedia pages have World Trade Centre with a link to World Trade Center ). 216.179.123.147 (talk) 16:40, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
