Flags used

I understand the thought, but I think it is a bit awkward that a Canadian flag that no one remembers is used in the casualties columns instead of the one that has been in use since 1967. I can understand this in the case of nations whose borders have drastically changed, but this is not the case for Canada. Additionally, when I was a child growing up in the 1950s in Canada, the UK's union jack was flown, not the one shown in the table, which looks vaguely like the Ontario provincial flag to me. Second sentence: "[...] the 2.3 billion (est.) people that consisted of the global population in 1940."

Unless there's a secondary sense I'm not familiar with, this is the wrong way 'round. A group "consists of" its members.

Solution: Flipping the order works without much need for rephrasing. Or, replace with "constituted" or some such.
